MNy thinks my garbage can is a danger even when it is clearly off to the side and NOT in the path. It is even outside the backup camera green/yellow/red lines. Had the snsors checked for alignment and they are spot on. Overly sensitive sensors think is our problem. Have one FCA vehicle that does it and one that does NOT, two different years - one year apart - and two silightly different heights. Hummm Same sensor though. Wonder, cost cutting by trying to use the same sensor on two different applications ??????

I went to shut off this brake assist feature on my 2020 2500 and it does not have it. This must be a 1500 only feature. Kind of surprised me.

Mine is too sensitive as well. I have a pretty good idea what will trigger it wrongly. It seems backing out of driveways, especially if they're angled down or dip at the end. I've heard about the "fix" for it, but I've heard some people it actually got worse after the fix.

I think its an indispensable feature. I had a 2012 Chevy truck--tinted back window and a cap with heavy tint on front and back window. No rear camera or screen. When backing up I hit three different things because I couldn't see CHIT. First time I ever hit anything. Between the sensors, camera and auto brake it will never happen again and of course, I'll never buy a Chevy again.......

Thank you so much for this thread! I had my rear sensors shut off to prevent the dumb brake assist, had no idea I could disable it.

Good to hear it's easy to disable. Does it work off the park sensors? My sensors are always going off in the winter and during heavy rain until i get over the speed that they disable and that drives me nuts. I can't imagine how crazy auto braking would make me in those conditions.

I've replaced a few rear bumpers. I'll learn to use it correctly and leave it turned on.

I guess I'll be turning it off when mine arrives. I always back into the driveway and park with the side of my truck about 6" away from my work vehicle...gives the wife more room to get in an out of the driveway.

I’m glad to see mine isn’t the only one that doesn’t like a slopped driveway. I have had the truck almost 2 months and last week it decided it didn’t like the road at the end of driveway that day and slammed me into the emergency brake... spilling coffee all over the center console, seat, me, and floor of my still new truck smelling truck. I. Was. Pissed. It’s off now.

I took mines back to dealer for update. It still doesn’t like my driveway unless I’m really slow backing up but as soon as I give it gas -e stop.
I didn’t know it had that feature until I thought I had hit something the 1st night I drove home from dealer. Hell I was gonna take it back thinking it had a transmission or brake issue. Scared the it out of me. Read the entire 600 page Manuel, my window sticker etc so no more surprises. Turned it off

I have a slopped driveway, finally experienced this. Kind of fun, don't you think? :) No problem, I just hit the rear sensor button as I'm backing in then turn it back on once I'm stopped. Don't want to pay for a new bumper elsewhere. With my old beat up back, turning around to look just ain't an option any more, and mirrors/camera do only so much with two eyes that usually look only in one direction (unless I've had too much whiskey, then I'm not behind the wheel anyway ;) )
