2018 QC SWB 4x4 6.4 Hemi 3.73. 15,945 miles. Transmission seems to be slipping in Reverse. Dealer (Bruner, Stephenville, TX) observed the truck revving and not moving much in reverse. Tech took a look and the service advisor came back to me....

Service advisor said "we confirmed what you knew, this is going to be an ordeal." The tech reported the truck is throwing a code for "gear ratio error." They will drop the pan tomorrow or Friday. I have a loaner vehicle and it's a truck so I'm satisfied for the time being.

Truck has been flawless and very enjoyable up until now. I mean I don't care much for the 3.73 ratio and how much the transmission shifts in the hill country but I knew that going in from what I read on here.

Wish me luck it's a quick ordeal!!

I will PM about the service advisor.

Based on what I’m hearing, I’ll be receiving a new transmission

those guys are true blue. there are not big fans of the rfe, or any oem transmission for that matter. that have fixes for weak points of all transmissions they service I do believe.

Received a voicemail from my case manager today. She said my transmission will be rebuilt. Parts should be ordered soon, maybe even today.

I still have no clue why reverse failed or what was found when they dropped the pan...?

It's BS that it takes almost a month to diagnose, and obtain parts for a 15K mile 2018 vehicle. I have nightmare's about this when I'm 2000 miles from home towing my RV trailer, on a two week vacation. I bought my 2500 tradesman off-road, simple tech overkill to tow my rig 3500 lbs.
I really have little confidence in today's over engineered, computer over-killed, tech/diagnostics's. Made in who knows where, China, Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan, BF Egypt.

They legally have to tell you what was wrong, and allow you to inspect any failed parts that have to be sent back under warranty.

The diagnosis timeframe should ALWAYS be quick. Obtaining parts is a different story altogether, especially with the current state of trade. With all the issues, it is taking longer to get almost any component, because companies are keeping inventories at low levels to avoid paying more in tariffs than they need to. We have noticed it in the machine building industry as well - components that used to be 10-15 days are now 25-30 days. Some components that were once 10 week lead times are up to 50 weeks of lead time.

That's funny right there! Other than buying a domestic truck from the 60's that you know was made in the good old USA we are at the mercy of whatever the truck makers give us to choose from. Electronic EVERYTHING!
And they will keep doing it because I'd bet 99.8% of truck buyer today really like their electric windows, heated electric adjustable seats, power steering, power brakes, dual climate control, tilt steering, automatic everything on today's new trucks.

Lower reverse piston failed due to a seal that was not set correctly from the manufacture....supposedly. One of the parts to be replaced is on back order but is coming from another dealer...and should be in tomorrow miraculously.

I had to walk in the dealer and ask for the GM in order to get as much information as I did. GM was out on an errand so I spoke to service manager. Not holding my breath.

My 66rfe (6.4 Hemi) blew up under zero load sitting in traffic at 38K. According to the tech that opened it up the valve body "blew apart" Was rebuilt under warranty and now at 93K is slipping, going into limp mode and probably going to need another rebuild or ?? I have lifetime warranty so financially I really don't care. Just don't want to get stuck with my 5th wheel on the back of the truck in the middle of nowhere. These Ram trannys sure aren't like the old "Maytag Man".

Ram is going to be sorry they sold me the Lifetime warranty. It's already paid for itself with exhaust manifold bolts and I think I'm about to get some more repairs.

irony: the longer I have my old Dodge trucks, the greater percentage import it becomes. I'm pretty sure my 73 is now 70% US made and 30% imported replacement parts.

Did you have any issues with slipping in 1st or reverse in the early days after you purchased the truck?

Did the service manager say the seal on the L/R Piston was rolled over and allowing fluid to bypass the lip of the seal?

Or did he just say it was installed wrong when it was built?
