I have a 2024 Night edition 2500 with a 68RFE transmission. It went out at 4950 miles. Local dealer said something came loose and destroyed the clutches. The dealer rebuilt the transmission and now with only 7900 miles it is out again. This time they say it is totally gone and I have to have a new one put in. Now they are telling me they will be surprised if it comes in within 2 months and more likely it will be 6 months. Sale will not talk to me about a trade because they don't want a truck that won't run and no definite time it will be fixed. Has anyone else ran into this extended replacement time.

Get your lawyer on it. Sometime a good letter from a lawyer speeds things up. The point is, you purchased this vehicle in good faith, there is no reasonable expectation that you should be made to wait that long for a replacement part. Your payments don't stop, neither does your warranty. All the while your vehicle remains unusable.

Definitely see if it qualifies for Lemon Law. Likely, it depends on the "In Service" date. Otherwise, you can go up the ladder at FCA with/without a lawyer, whatever. Fwiw, 2 months for a new tranny doesn't surprise me. Six months? Pretty ridiculous. I've had two tranny rebuilds and an engine replacement under warranty and each was at least a couple months.

I don't have anything useful to contribute, so I'll add this. What a crock of ****! I absolutely despise dealerships. They are always in a SUPER hurry to get you into that big beautiful vehicle today, right now, what can we do to earn your business... and then when their lemon does lemon ****, they just shrug their shoulders and walk away. Sorry you're going through this, and if it helps, I'm pissed off for you.

Long wait sucks, I wouldn't mind, so long as they give me comparable 2500 to drive while I wait......
That'd be the respectable thing to do. If you're going to be on the hook for payments/insurance during that time, you should have access to and usability of what you're incurring the expenses on.

Then they wonder why there survey showed they are on the bottom. Have been blessed my 2021 3500 has zero issues with a little over 50000 miles on it. Should be my last truck

Dealer has offered me a 1500 truck and said I could not pull anything with it. I guess they are afraid it will go out too. Have contacted an attorney and unless it is repaired by January 8 they will start lemon law actions. Did not know about the @RamCares but will get on that today. THANKS all.

Glad you are protecting your interests. 2 months is ridiculous, let alone 6. They obviously have new ones available or the assembly line would shut down. Treating customers like that is just disrespectful in the extreme.

Even at 2 months it is much too long. Maybe a week or two but 2 months is ridiculous!

I agree... IIRC, my engine was well more than two months - might have even been 3 or 4. I wasn't living where my truck was at the time so it really was no big deal. And I was pretty happy to be getting a brand new engine on an eight year old truck so I just lived with it. Ironically, my truck's in the shop as I type this for a radiator and an instrument cluster. Probably going to be close to a month once it's all done.

By the way Its not always the dealers fault we can not get the parts fast enough. Yes some dealers suck and are lazy about it and dont fight hard enough to get parts quicker. However at a minimum I would be expecting a rental the whole time the truck is down.

The problem is they stopped using this transmission at the end of 2024 right after I got mine. Now they use an 8 speed that is built better. So they are not making anymore for the assembly line.

Sounds like you should get an updated trans,

Yeah, lots complain about "dealers" but it's really the system the dealers are at the mercy of. I have no complaints at all about my interactions with the dealer service departments I've dealt with. Like anything, honey goes further than vinegar. I read these message board posts about people going in screaming at the service advisor and laugh. There's usually nothing they can do to speed things up... and if there were they aren't going to help the guy that's a jerk. I owned a company for years and always had the hardest time fielding complaints from nice, respectful people. The people that come in all hot and angry and try to intimidate? Easiest complaints, really since I don't care.

I feel your pain. My 2022 had a major shifting issue at 12k miles while still under warranty, so they replaced the tranny (68RFE) with a reman unit. Said they found a lot debris and broken clutch material in the pan. That repair took just over a month to be done. Now 3700 miles later same issue again. Had my reman tranny removed and torn apart and found some snap ring that was a known FCA issue? My original reman tranny on my first repair back in late 24.. came in in just days, as I think they are built in kokomo Indiana. They will not replace your trans with a new one, it will be a reman unit, at least that is what I was told several times by my service writer. My trans never left me stranded it just would shift so hard in and out of 2nd gear, while in tow haul mode.... it would scare you. As other have mentioned, they no longer use the 69RFE trans anymore for anything. Now the HDs are equipped with german made ZF transmission.

It most often NOT the dealer's fault when parts are difficult to get. It is the manufacturer. Folks need to know that while we value and take pride in our vehicles, we are, at the end of the day, just a number on a balance sheet.

FYI the 68 ref auto trans was never known too have had snap ring problem(s), it was the Aisin trans that had all of the snap ring problems an if you got told the 68 was known to have snap ring problems you got lied too....
