so about 2 weeks ago I started hearing a metel to metal noise comeing from under ther truck.... Figured it could be the breaks riding the rotor. So I set a meeting at the local dealer to have it checked out.

Dropped it off at 8AM this morning and I got a call at 3pm.. The lady says "Well it's not your breaks" She tells me that there is 1/2 a quart of fluid in the rear end :jawdrop: and she is telling me that there is a 80% chance that the whole rear end will have to be replaced and that I will not have my truck for up to a week or more. :killer:

She says that this is more than likley the dealer that I bought the truck from fault and I got to thinking.. They brought the truck 8 hours up from Ohio on a truck because they didn't have a truck with the color I wanted anywhere near NY or PA. When the truck arrived at the dealer it was 7PM at night. they quickley went over everything on the truck doing a once over but I guess they failed to check the fluid in the rear end due to it being late and they didn't want to properly check everything. and so I have been driving it like that for 14,*** miles. truck had 8 miles on it when I bought it.

There is no leak in the rear because I am always checking everything on the truck and I would have spotted a leak if there was one. But the lady said we could not ruel that out yet??????????

I called my dealer and they told me that if they try to blaim this as Neglect on my part that they would have the truck towed from this dealer to the them at their cost and would make sure that the Warranty was used in this situation. My dealer did admit that they were in a hurry to get me going because I had a 3 hour trip back to my job site and it was closing time for them.

Sorry for the long story but had to rant a bit.

WOW! At least they admitted to their mistake. Sucks you're going to be without your truck for so long. Good luck.

You are not the first person to have this issue (thinks I should check mine)

Then again, if it blows up, I'll have em slap in the factory R/T gears & posi...

Yeah, I mean I never even thought to check the fluid... It's a brand new tuck so I never asked or checked.. I change my own oil so it has not been to the dealer for awhile.

Wow, that really sucks. I certainly hope they warranty it. I haven't checked mine either and don't even know what the service interval is in the differentials. I guess I should check mine soon.

Yikes! I don't see how they could not warranty it. Hope it all works out for you.

Well they said it depends on your "Driving Style" or how you use the truck. My understanding (and I could be wrong) the first change for diffs is 18k (With no towing and regular driving) but people that tow a lot should be serviced around 15k??? That's what the lady was telling me at the dealer.

I don't have my service book or dvd it's in the truck.. So if anyone with a 2012 2500 Hemi has their book maybe they could chime in and let me know.

IIRC Checking EVERY Fluid is part of a PDI at the dealer.

At least they are looking after you, but it shouldn't even be up for question.

I have a 2012 work cummins but they did offer a rental but I didn't need It.

But yeah they told me that the fluid should have been checked and it was not. And your right I should not come into question about this.

Diff service interval on my 2000 2500 was 30k. It is closed and not open to contaminants. Never heard of servicing the diffs on a normally driven truck at only 15-18k. That would be an interval for a severe duty vehicle that sees a lot of towing or hauling miles, not a normally driven vehicle.

yeah buddy... They will take your money but don't give a "F" if they send you out in a truck that's not ready.
