Just found this forum. I have the same issue! Question: Do you know the model EVIC you got with the horn-on unlock option? I see a lot listed on EBAY! Thanks!

Congrats on winning the most ancient thread resurrection award.

Just 2 months short of 6 years. Bravo!

And, you quoted a member who is still active. That's worth a few extra points.

I'm subscribed to a few older threads that precede my joining, but that has nothing to do with google.

I may have posted in them or subscribed because I thought something was interesting.

The thread was resurrected so anyone subscribed would receive a notification on RF.

I know what you mean about them showing up in searches. That doesn't include a notification from RF, though.

We should start a contest for members who revive the old threads. They could receive points for the number of thread members still active and negative points for those who are not.

Or, we can just poke fun at those who dig up the real old threads.

I do know, unfortunately that knowledge will do you little good because it isn't compatible with your 2006 (PCI vs CAN). You need one of the p/n's below:

Desperate times require desperate measures. It's just what came up on my Google search, so I thought it was worth a try, and I got some good info. :D

Just found this post and hoping to find a solution to a mystery. Have a 2004 1500 SLT with just 35K miles. Asked mechanic to disable horn on factory alarm due to lame threats from HOA. Picked up truck, was told everything was fixed. Drove home. Parked. Set alarm with keyfob - lights flashed, no horn. Take that HOA Karen's! Next morning went to leave for work, used key fob - lights flashed, drivers door unlocked, got in, put key in ignition and nothing. Well almost. The next thing that happened the alarm went off like I'd just broken into my own truck and it's 5:15 AM! Tried using fob to deactivate - nothing happened. Tried interior door lock switch, nothing happened. Wound up popping hood and removing negative battery cable. Waited about a week before reconnecting while carpooling with a friend - and after reconnecting, exact same issue. Mechanic states he followed instructions found online, so hoping someone might know a remedy before I grab a pair of dikes and go after whatever has possessed it! Thanks!

This modification was posted for a 2000 Ram 2500. I'm not sure if it would be the same for your truck.

If this mod is suitable for your truck, instead of cutting that black/red wire, I would figure out how to release that pin from the connector. A jeweller's screwdriver or an awl will often work to release a tab on the pin, and it will just slide out of the connector.

I would use a piece of heat-shrink tubing on the pin and a miniature tie-wrap to hold it in place on the wiring harness. This will allow you to put everything back to OE at a future date.

Do you have any info on what changes were made to supposedly bypass the horn?

I know if I were in this predicament with the HOA on my case, if the above wasn't suitable, I would wire up a relay on the line into the horn with a bypass switch, but only as a temporary method to quiet them down while I search for a better solution.

You can likely buy the mating connectors, so you don't have to chop anything up and can easily return the wiring to OE.

I will look for a service manual to obtain a schematic as soon as I have more time.

Do you or a friend have any experience with wiring and electronics, or will you be farming out this mod?

Thank you for all the great info. At this point, hoping to return system to where it was prior to shop attempting to turn horn function off. I'll take my chances with HOA, or start parking it in garage more. Just frustrating as owner, though I completely understand why Dodge would make this mouse trap to keep from devious hands being able to override easily. BTW, tried getting help from 4 area dealerships to no avail. Guess she's too old.

Na, it can't be too old.

Dealerships shy away from anything that is non-standard whereas many forum members are more open minded.

Together, we can make it perform to your preference. It all depends on the amount of motivation you have to make it your own.
