To me the 6.4 sound is like a diesel and a gas engine getting it on, and the result is our 6.4

Well they are not all like that.
I have a 2014 6.4 and have had No issues. I have 32,000 on the truck now.

Only time I've got the tick is when it's been parked nose high for a day or two and it went away pretty quick and don't think it was as loud as the one in the videos.

That second video is my truck, I believe it's a lifter that bleeds down. I've taken it in twice but it doesn't always do it and of course the dealer says nothing happened when they had it.

It will knock for 5 seconds or 10 minutes, depends. But when it stops knocking it's instantly, in a second

Confusing because the thread starter says his 2016 noise doesn't ever go away

I might have had that knock after its sat for a long time but its never been that bad. The noise im talking about originates from the exhaust and can be heard mostly at cold idle and whenever the gas is mashed. Just a ticking sound. Like i said, my buddies sounds exactly the same and ive heard it on another 2500 hemi truck. Im beginning to think its kinda normal. Just pulled a pretty decent sized boat (~5000lbs) up and down the hills on the interstate and back roads and while i knew i was towing something, if i kept the rpms up3-4k), i could gain speed going up some decently steep hills. Running 70-75 up the hills wasnt too much of an issue. Made me pretty happy. As long as the sound doesnt get worse, or any more sounds arise, i think I can live witn it. But i admit, it will always be at the back of my mind. Cant really hear the tick in the cab once the rpms get up there. Averaged 8mpg over 170 miles but that was doing 70-75 on the interstate and 65 on the back roads. Stop and go in some towns too.

Also, i agree it sounds like a diesel and gas motor mixed up under the hood. Its a uniqe sound. Im sure they are not all like that but my truck runs pretty good. And im not talking about the knocking sound in the videos. Thats not a tick to me. Sounds are damn hard to convey through text I admit.

Someone needs to post a video of what's considered "normal" for comparison. I would like to hear this mini Diesel engine noise.

forget it. I hate my phone. I took the video at 6:30 and have tried to send it a few times. its only 5 sec long and 13.3 MB, Gmail's max video size to send is 25MB. I give up for now. maybe it will appear eventually.

My 6.4L ticks at cold start up, then quiets down a bit when warm, but it doesn't totally go away.

It used to CLATTER but that all got fixed a while ago.

finally came through. only took 4 hours.

so the video actually is exaggerating/amplifying the sound quite a bit. its not even close to this loud in reality. this is just after start up right after pulling out of my garage. you can hear it echoing off the house. it is ALL exhaust, on my truck at least. There is always going to be mechanical noise with big displacement push-rod engines. my Harley had a push-rod and it ticked just like this truck. and it never went away. the only thing that slightly helped it was 20w50 amsoil. there is no video when the truck is warm as the sound is gone when the truck gets to about 130 Fahrenheit.

first attempt on videos so bear with me. lest see how this works

sorry its so short. I had to edit it down to get it to send.

you can hear it best right at the end of the video when the engine is directly next to the house.

The 6.4 is a bit noisy idling out the the garage 1st thing in the morning, but for me it quiets down when put in neutral/park or in gear under a load.

As said before, when warm it's just normal engine sounds.
