I hate being in neutral. I drove stick and almost never took it out of gear same on my bike. I think riding a motorcycle in some shady traffic has made me super defensive as did the military. I'm always looking for an exit if something happens. My luck car behind me doesn't stop and I rev to redline trying to move.
Not me,stopping on ice is alot easier if it's in neutral, lol.I drove and raced stick alot, and always used neutral, after you put a few throw out bearings in,putting a stick in neutral is alot easier then pulling the tranny to replace the throw out bearing ;) I raced Pro Motocross when i was a kid,was never much inclined to ride a street bike,as i figured it'd either put me in jail or kill me :Big Laugh: A bike is a differant story from a car or truck though

They don't turn off if they're in neutral or gear,at least the push button start ones don't.You have to hold the start button down for 30 seconds or more to shut down a push to start vehicle if it's in gear or neutral.
Try it with your key ignition truck,i'd be amazed if you can turn it off if it's in gear or neutral
I just have the fob that you turn. No button. I don't know if I want to try it or not, however if I pull into the driveway and turn it off before putting it in park, it turns off, then the transmission automatically shifts to park, so it seems like it would work. I imagine if the car is rolling it would know that, and not shift into park, but I'm not going to chance trying it.

If you hit neutral the engine's going to over-rev. Seems to me just turning the key off would be the quickest solution. If your foot's already on the brake it's going to stop.

The engine has an RPM limiter and I'm pretty sure the push button isn't going to shut the vehicle off while you're in drive and moving. Turning the key off will also lock the steering column and you'll lose power steering and brakes. If you're at a stop already, not a huge deal, but if you aren't stopped...

Put it in neutral, get to a stop, then turn it off.

Manual I do as well. Not automatic, but I'm not driving on a skating rink. :D

As Doc stated they're rpm limited to 4,000 rpm when in neutral or park, and i'm sure that even applies to the little 3.6,you're not hurting the engine at that rpm.

Okay I agree, that's exactly what I'll do. AI says to do the same thing

No it won’t. The RPM-Limiter will kick-in. (edit: whoops…. I posted this response on an earlier page….and then get here on pg 5 to see this has already been stated.)

I have had 3 personal experiences wherein a driver believed their vehicle was self-possessed and accelerated on its own…. to later realize they were simply pressing on the wrong pedal OR on both pedals simultaneously.
In #1, another coat of paint and the driver would have run into my truck full-blast. #2, the driver drove thru their washer/drier and into their own kitchen while I watched. #3, while everyone was stopped, awaiting the light to change, a total stranger rear-ended the car in the lane beside me.

Hell walking across my street right now is worse then walking on a skating rink,as it's shiny ice with ruts and ridges,at least a skating rink is smooth :Big Laugh:

Well, not to rub it in too much but I ran 5k in shorts and a long sleeve today. I've done some trail runs in the winter, largely because I'm stupid and like to punish myself for some reason, and use those over-the-shoe crampons with replaceable cleats. Basically studded tires for your feet. The last one I did was a nighttime half marathon and it snowed during the event. It was full of suck and woe, but I got it done. About 2 miles from the finish line I heard someone behind me go down *hard*. I turned and saw two guys stopping to help him so I kept on moving but it looked like he caught a root at full tilt and ate it. That's a long story about something you didn't ask about, but the takeaway is those crampon things help a lot. Not the Yak Trax things with the springs, they are fine until you get to a slick rock or dry pavement then you'll go ass over teakettle.

I raced motocross bikes on ice in the winter in the sheet metal screw class, and there's been times i've thought of seriously running a bunch of sheet metal screws into the bottom of my winter boots :Big Laugh: :Big Laugh: :Big Laugh:

It would work, I'm sure. The nice thing about the rubber crampons is they have enough give that if you walk on a floor or a rock or something the rubber still makes contact and you don't go sliding. I first got a set for work, and other than being rough on the floor mat in the patrol car they were perfect. You didn't have to take them on and off to go in houses, etc.

It's a lot hotter here than in PA usually. If sitting at a long light/intersection, I put my MC in neutral. Just stopped for a short period, I'll leave the bike in gear with clutch in. But I have a really big MC which is water cooled and if the fans kick on, I try if possible to put in neutral if stopped especially when temps near 100 degrees, get cooked on the MC to medium rare (sic), lol.

I had to google to see wtf "crampons" were, lmao. All my years in Northern tier bases when assigned, never wore any thing like that. Had bunny boats, but those things were awful. Usually I wore my "mucks". The mucks were great in snow but on sheer ice, could be
interesting, especially walking on a flight line when iced over.

FTR: I still have a pair of mucks and a "shorty" parka in the closet. Actually needed both items in Feb 2021 during the freak snow storm/ice event where it was below -5 F here with 8-10 inches of ice/snow and no power everywhere, friggin half the state or more was shut down. Now U tundra guys and Cannuck guys, U can laugh, but remember, nothing here built for that type of weather, actually homes made to keep cold in/not out. What a mess, between broken pipes, power, heat, heck over 200 PPL in state died attributed to storm, crazy.

Never did a lot of time in the dirt, mostly just a street rider. In Europe, I had my American Spec Yamaha there, and U know I stayed in the slow lane outta the way. No way I could compete with those monster BMW's n such, running the autobahn at 200-300 K's an hour, LOL. That US spec bike would redline and blow way slower than that.

@PA Ram

Just a bigger Golden Pig Target, lol. I neva rode those crotch rockets, not for dis BOIRD.
Also a bigger target for Cross winds and blow by when a large truck goes by. Friggin bigger Trike does not slice through wind very well, well it is wider and bigger. WHY I always either go to the far right or if I can into another lane to the right when I see Big Rigs coming. Rock yer world Baby. I even have a "Dennis Kirk" frame stabilizer on front fork, but them trucks either suck you in or push U right, and if U daydreaming listening to the radio and lost in la la land (I do ride with radio/phone playing and Cruise on), dat ole chit moment not nice.

I have been fortunate with my Trike, but I flipped my Suzuki in the early 70's at over 60 mph (Speedometer was jammed at 58), and that flying Circus impression hurt for a long time, why I AM REAL respectful when riding and try and leave plenty of room for da other fools (Especially the ones say they cannot see me coming/going) (Geez double headlights, and rear lights and LED around Top trunk).

Also hate riding in big groups cause that accordion effect with big groups and impatient 4 wheelers get U hurt too. Just saying.

Looks like a crotch rocket, but classified as a sport not super sport. I changed alot on the bike since I bought it in 2012 including changing the bars to clip ons. Can sit upright if I want, but can lay on the tank at fast highway speeds. I used to commute 40 mile round-trip to work all the time on it and the highway portions tucking was nice especially if temps were colder. No real protection from wind.

I absolutely hate laying down to ride a MC, not running a MOTO race doing 80 through a corner. I also hate APE Bars, frack, my arms hurt enough not to have them suspended in mid air, lmao.

If U not know, with a Trike and they way they track, there is NO LEANING, or COUNTER STEER on a Trike. Good way to lose control and end up on yer head if U go crazy. That are the 2 things I miss most going from 2-3 wheels. But then, it sure is a lot easier sitting at a light, not having to throw out a leg and hold up a motorcycle at a light, or in friggin traffic, or the Dreaded Kickstand going through gravel or tar in a parking lot.

CAVEAT: The way a TRIKE tracks and rear pushes straight is why Trike riders go through front tires every 6-10K miles, they usually good for about 8K till time to pay the Master: Dunlop or Bridgestone @$250 a piece more or less, not counting mounting.
