I found this weird clip resting between the cylinder head and block on the passenger side when doing the head gaskets. I don't recognize it but wondering if anyone else does. If anyone is curious yes someone was in it before at some point because I found a few broken studs on the exhaust manifold. Wondering if this was the cause of the head gasket leak..... Roughly 1" x 1"?

I now found another one on the other side exact same spot under the cylinder head. Have to do some investigating......

Well I can't find them in any service manuals and it almost looks like a lock clip for a coolant line or maybe an intercooler? The heads are out being resurfaced so they will be gone for a week or 2 so I will keep looking in that time and hopefully someone posts what these might be. Her is a photo of where they were laying. One on each side just laying on top of the block.

So I wanted to update this post and let everyone know my results. The clip is from the lifters. On the end of the lifters a clip is used to lock it all together. Looks like I will be replacing the lifters and hopefully the camshaft is in good shape but will find out. Here is a pic I got from a YouTube video which shows the breakdown of parts In a lifter. Just throwing this out, but if you're this deep into it, I'd recommend not reusing the original cam and popping in a new one, and maybe new rods too.

Yes an expense, but you're going all new and fresh, so make it a full tight job and leave no chance for old product to hamper a new scope of work.

Were the heads resurfaced ? If so you should get a fresh measurement for your pushrods , as the length needed will change.

Heads are getting resurfaced and I will get them rechecked. My guy mentioned the same thing.
He's backed up 3 weeks.

In other entertaining news: drain Rocket is not good at unclogging this sink drain.

What happened to chemicals I saw in the 80's and 90's. With like skulls and crossbones with high and bright yellow warnings of never mixing that cleaner with other cleaners? Now I have potpourri smelling crap that doesn't do squat but the bathroom smells good!?! Let's find the 75.4ft snake

They mostly abolished those chemicals or limtied to sales of 55 gallon drums, only.

True story:

Late 70's, early 80's, my Aunt cleaned up a spill, near her work station, at a major manufacturer of Dark Green Green Painted Farm implement equipment, known for running like the critter that terrorizes US Highways. yeah, that one.

She used some bottles, that were specifically for cleaning whatever the heck it was that spilled and the resulting fumes messed up how her brain functioned.
She ended up with a huge lawsuit & disability. Changed her personality and severely limited her muscle control / mobility.

She went from the most gorgeous, funniest Aunt, ever, to the most Ultra Christian, Evangelist Aunt that everyone avoided.
Think Farrah Fawcett to a wheel chair bound Tammy Fay Baker, in about 6 months.

Complete re-wiring of her brain & metabolism.

Here is an update. I pulled all the lifters without absolutely no issues. None stuck amazingly. Lifters are actually in nice shape except the fact that quite a few of those lock clips have fallen out of the lifter. All the lifters came out whole with no missing pieces. I took my camera and looked into the holes at the lobes on the camshaft and they look good as well. I think I got lucky that more damage didn't occur. I took pictures of the lifters if you want to see or see anything I didn't.
