Yes,yes and yes. What lives up there is the automatic high beam sensors and rain sensing wipers. The smaller box mounted to the windshield is the humidity sensor for vehicles with AUTO climate control.

Thanks for all replies!

I have to install a dashcam and also a decal for the toll.

The area where the cam for the automatic low/high beam and rain sensing wipers has to be free of course.

But what's about the humidity sensor?

Should these sensors have a free line of sight from their position until the bottom of the windshield ? or only until the end of the darkened zone at the bottom of the windshield?

The things you have to worry about obstructing are the camera for the auto high beams (your first photo) and the forward light sensor in the rear of the auto dim mirror. The other sensor that is bonded to the glass you wouldn't be able to obstruct from inside. It measures the density of water droplets on the glass for the auto wipers and it looks outward straight through the glass at the mounting surface. As long as you don't cover the outside of the glass directly over it, you'll be fine.

When I read in the owners manual about this, they called it a "camera" and my first thought was wondering if it's possible to tap into it and use it as a dash-cam rig. I doubt it though...I'm sure they're just sensors.

To answer the question above, I find the auto wipers to work quite well. Once I turn them on I almost never have to adjust them. Matter of fact, often just as I'm about to speed up the frequency, it will do it itself. Same with the auto high beams. I was leery about trusting them, but I find they react even quicker than I can when I realize a car is coming the other direction. They dim before my fingertips find the stalk.

They work ok. Not bad, not great. Sometimes they are a little slow to catch up with a sudden increase of rainfall, or if you start driving faster (therefor the windshield gets more drops hitting it). The auto setting can be toggled on/off in the uconnect - controls - settings menu. To use auto, you have the setting turned on, and set the wiper switch in any of the intermittent levels. Regardless of the auto feature toggled on or off, selecting: constant low or high speed with the wiper switch, it'll work normally.

The intermittent settings on the stalk should adjust the sensitivity of the auto system if it's like other FCA vehicles.

Unfortunately I don't have the auto wipers in my truck. I had them in my old Grand Cherokee and have them in my 300. It's a feature I definitely miss, so I will try to add it if I ever have to replace the windshield. At least I was able to install the auto high beam feature
