So I leave to go to work today, sitting in my driveway, my gas gauge reads just under 3/8th's (between 1/4 and the next line up, for you non-mathematical types :joke:)
DTE was 115 miles, I make my 20 minute drive to work, mostly highway miles, and now I'm below 1/4 tank and dte says 47?????? ok what happened?!?

but i mean that big of a change from my driveway to work??? I'm freakin out thinking I sprung a fuel line or something! If my **** DID get stolen out of my tank i'll be sitting in my living room with the night vision scope in service. if you're a thief, **** you.

Somebody tried to get me last time I was up at the farm. Other than the dude with the BIG farm across the street, ain't a house within a mile and I know the guy across the street wouldn't do it. Good buddy, who gives me unlimited huntin/fishin rights to his property. Matter of fact we busted our butts tilling over his place to plant some Dove friendly crops for dove season this fall.

I come out in the morning and my fuel door is open, cap dangling on the side of the truck. No gas gone though. I think the check valve at the top of the tank keeps you from being able to snake a tube down and I've been told that the only way to empty the tank is to drop it.

But it got me thinkin' anybody could pour bleach or anything else down into the tank, so I went straight to Autozone in town and invested $14 in a locking cap...

You would smell it if it was your fuel line. Had my fuel adapter hose split open when going 35mph and man the smell was overpowering.

Like the others already noted it looks like the work of a thief. Sucks "no pun intended"

well i smelled a little bit of gas when I was on the highway, but it either went away or I got used to it. I stopped the truck and took a peek under there, didn't see anything dripping no odor either.

an 1/8 of a tank is about 3 gallons. If you were romping on it while driving 20 minutes you could have moved the needle. Park on slight incline and it has a minor effect as well.

hmmm...well my driveway is inclined, i suppose it just took awhile for it to level out. I'd like to think that's the cause more than theft. Hell most people in my little neighborhood don't even lock their cars at night. I'll get a locking cap anyway, cheap insurance, well, deterrent.

When In I was 16/17 . (yes they had cars back then) Smart asses. I would siphon gas quite regularly. However it was the highway dept. not private owners. Still with gas at a premium price, I may have to get it soon. I may be able to park at work in a secure spot, and here at home it's too close knit for anyone to chance it. You would have to be desperate and stupid............think I'll get me one too! lol!

well i'll be watching it closely now. Gas is too damn expensive to have it leak out or get stolen.

Could been just your truck on the incline and the needle taking awhile to move. I know sometimes when I fill up the gauge will take a min for some reason. Daniel I agree I think when i drove mine as a DD gas seemed to last longer lol, maybe cause my foot was a wee bit lighter.

when i go fishing i have to back my buddies boat back up into his garage. his driveway is steep as hell, and my truck sits there on it for a little while. my needle will go from well over 1/4 tank to completely empty according to the gauge in just a few minutes. when i take off to drive home, my low gas light turns on and it chimes. it takes 15-20 miles at least for the gas gauge to read correctly again to where my gas level actually is.

hmmm...glad im not the only one who's need takes time to adjust. If I'm low and almost fill it, it slowly but sure creeps up to the right level.

I think it's gas prices fault. Our gas gauges aren't used to going up past half and get stuck there (at least mine is), then when you fill it up it takes it awhile to get used to the idea again lol
