After some serious Google whacking ...

2013 26 gallon tank Flex Fuel: 68166431AB
2013 26 gallon tank: 68165891AB
2013 32 gallon tank Flex Fuel: 68166430AA

Don't have 2014 part numbers or the non Flex Fuel 32 gal.

I've come to the conclusion that the fuel sender in these trucks is retarded. I have a 32 gallon tank, but have had my light come on way early only needing 22-24 gallons to fill it up. Other times it'll come on and I need 28-30 gallons.

I gave up on the gauge. I know how much I drive every week so I just go by mileage at this point.

This is an interesting thread. I'm supposed to have a 32 gal tank on my truck too. It was listed on the window sticker, and the VIN check shows I have 32 gal tank. I was somewhat upset at first thinking the dealer charged me for a larger tank, because my usual fill up is only 23-25 gallons. But, I've only had the low fuel light come on once, and that was this last fill up. The warning light came on, and my DTE reading was about 40 miles. When I topped off the tank, it took about 26.4 gallons. So, I'm still not sure I have a 32 gallon tank on my truck.

You probably do. If the fuel light had just come on and you put in 26.4, then it's likely the larger tank.

I have the 32 gallon tank. I have at MOST put 28 gallons in mine. Light comes on with 50 gallons left. I can usually put 24-26 gallons in. when I run it to below 30 miles, that is when I put the 28 in. Never have I gone more than that.

My guess with your 22 gallon fill up is that you were on a steep grade or just bounced around and triggered the sensor.

I wish this was the case, but I had just finished my flat 20 mile commute home from work. The miles to empty may have read 50-60 till empty so if I get there again maybe I'll run it lower just to see if I can get more than 26 gallons in it. I usually fill up at 1/4 tank or so though so who knows when that will be. It's safe to say unless I run it way past 0 miles to empty I shouldn't run out of gas.

Best way to check how far you can actually go... fill up a 5 gallon can of gas and then drive till she sputters.

^^not going to do that as I've heard it's bad for the fuel pump. I'll just do what I've been doing.

Lets not over think this. It was probably an issue with the gas pump you where using. It is common for a gas pump to get out of whack and shut off prior to the tank being actually "full". Mystery solved :)

It's only bad for the pump if you continually run the tank to empty, one time, or even a few times a year, won't hurt it.

Could just be a fluke. Who knows.

I use to have a 95 f-150 with the dual tanks. The sending unit was bad on the front tank so I never knew how much fuel I had in the front tank. I would keep a eye on the trip and I would get around 200-220 out of the front tank. I would run it till it sputtered and then I would switch tanks. One really won't hurt anything but it's true that you really don't want to run the fuel pump dry I can burn it up. Over the 3 years that I had it or knew who owned it the fuel pump never went out and that's how we all drove it.
