Which RAM

I have a 2018 Dodge Ram Tradesman. It's in storage about a 3 day drive from where I live regularly. I need a pick up where I live now. I don't feel like hopping in a plane and getting my Ram out of storage, and driving it back. That means, lease or buy a truck for here. Would you get a newer version RAM, or go with an older version? I need it to be reliable. I am going to be putting a lot of miles on it in the next few months. some of the travel will be mountainous, and it will be snowy. Some won't.

depends how much you want to spend lol.. Its a buyers market at the moment look around facebook or local dealers.

No argument from me if buying new, but it seems like the OP is interested in a used truck and is trying to decide between a newer one or an older one. If that’s the case then a lease isn’t in the mix since you can’t lease a used vehicle.

@pittrader1988 I think it’s mostly a financial decision assuming you’ll be financing. An older truck typically means a smaller payment but may be less reliable, while a newer usually has a higher payment but is more likely to have better reliability.

The fact that you’ll be putting a lot of miles on whichever truck you get would make me lean more towards a newer one. But I’d definitely make sure it’s a 4x4 since you’ll be driving in the mountains in winter conditions.

If that Tradesman is a good truck, and you're already happy with it, why bother buying a new/used one? Hire a car hauler service to pick up that 2018 and bring it out to you.

With the current market getting better for buyers I'd look at used 5th generation but not lease because of your comment of putting lots of miles. I bought my 19 used because the new pricing was outrageous to me. Let someone else take the initial depreciation.

My bad. Thanks for pointing out my ability to overlook plain english. In that case I totally agree that a lease would be a bad idea.

If I was forced to buy new I'd research the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 (Coyote) engine, no turbo both port and direct injected. Which would mean buying a Ford. Sadly the new hemi with have this stupid e torque vegetation hanging on despite the EPA telling them they don't have to. So the other option is buying a di turbo which means that engine needs to operate cleanly to run. The longevity and hence trade value is just not a comparison between that and a naturally aspirated v8. Stellantis is a foreign euro company, and the engine choices reflect those values. If you want a RAM anyhow, I'd go hurricane so and plan on trading it after 7 years.
