Wind buffeting ?

Hey guys, I never owned a 4 door truck or car before this new 2022 Ram 1500 I purchased last week. Got the front windows tinted 2 days ago, so i cant roll them down, but decided to roll the back windows down since it's a nice cool day here in south florida. That's when i hear a rather annoying vibrating sound. Pull over and tires look fine, come home and lugs are tight and nothing loose under the truck. go to dealership but they are too busy and almost closing. I search google and they call it "wind buffeting" (Helmholtz Resonance) ?
I guess its normal for it to sound like a helicopter vibrating because of the inside and outside pressures against each other huh ? absolutely crazy, cant enjoy riding with the windows down i guess, which isn't that much of a problem down here since 99% of the time its too hot to... Just wanting to confirm it happens to you guys with 4 doors also ?

Yep it's normal. When my kids wants their window open in the back that means my window is getting opened too.

Yeah, U have to balance off the openings or U get rocked. But remember, the cabs are not air tight, there are rear vents behind the rear seats also, so U get that "flow".

Sometimes I drop both rear windows and open the sliding rear window to equalize, but in the summer here, mostly windows definitely not open.

Oh well thanks again I'm sure I'll come up with more questions

I also get the helicopter sound in my car and RAM .
As mentioned crack a window or 2 till you find the combo that works for you !

The Challengers are bad for wind buffeting to,way worse then my regular cab truck is.The wifes Challenger will buffet so bad,the shoulder strap on the seat belts will beat on you,lol

if you have the owners manual, it describes the WAP WAP WAP of the helicopter blades

sometimes when the wind is striking the truck at just the right angle, my Ear Drums slam open & shut, just like being in a building with a Band that is playing the music too loud & the acoustics are terrible

Happens to me all the time. I think the owner's manual addresses it:

Wind Buffeting
Wind buffeting can be described as the perception of pressure on the ears or a helicopter-type sound in the ears. Your vehicle may exhibit wind buffeting with the windows down, or the sunroof (if equipped) in certain open or partially open positions. This is a normal occurrence and can be minimized. If the buffeting occurs with the rear windows open, open the front and rear windows together to minimize the buffeting. If the buffeting occurs with the sunroof open, adjust the sunroof opening to minimize the buffeting or open any window.

Yep, every day when I hit the highway on the way home, front windows down and loud buffeting. I just open the rear slider so the air can flow...

I miss the old vent windows and the floor vents. Never had that sound using those.
(But I don't miss my feet getting wet in the rain LOL)

yeah, I used to keep the floor vents open for airflow and cooling back in the day. Of course, back then we did not have AC a lot, and the side window vents helped to clear the front windshield also.

rear slide and or sun roof open should resolve this issue.

Yea definitely if you have the rear sliding glass, makes a hell of a difference. Especially if you open your front windows going down the highway and don't want the wind to rip off your hat or want the wind drying out your contacts (in my instance) I open the rear glass and it perfect. Good ventilation and you aren't getting violated by the wind.

Rear slider definitely helps but you cant eliminate all of it

That wind buffering you will hear on most autos today !
Adjust your window height to find the quiet sweet spot

I seldom roll my windows down as the level of road and traffic noise seems to have increased substantially from what I remember as a kid riding around with all the windows down on those skinny bias ply tires with the narrow, non-aggressive tire thread pattern siphets. Could just be the increase in traffic volume but it’s usually too uncomfortable and the windows go back up.
