RP should be thanking this thread lol. No wonder they are sold out in the Amazon store. I mean not like they are out of them you can still get direct from RP. Wonder if they were getting damaged box complaints(lost track how many times I had a damaged Amazon box) so they are deciding to just ship themselves.

I've been running the Fram XG2 on my '09 1500 for the past few weeks. No complaints yet, but there's too much variation in the other changes I made to determine how it factors in (ACDelco 0w20 to RP 5w30 at the same time). The combination of the two resulted in the low oil pressure code going away though!

Highly probable versus real world miles. There has never and likely will never be definitive proof, but personally with this vehicle I am glad I used the best I personally could find. Something I never cared about or even attempted before. But then again cheap oil filters never made my truck tick before, or any oil, this was new to me. I would suggest the "thick" synthetic loose media is a feature of a filter w/o a downside, hits every metric, good flow and efficiency. I guess the only downside in theory would be less capacity, but I have never even seen much contamination in my cut open filters, I think if you did you would have larger problems with that vehicle. mopar filters are officially junk, I am a little embarrassed as the OP to have not found this easily obtainable info earlier, my bad.

Yup, concur.

The only concern was whether enough media was used for reasonable OCI's, and right-sizing to RP 20-820, or in my case 20-500, greatly lessens that concern. Esp. If we're not doing extended OCI's out of concern for MDS and VVT sensitivity to contamination.

Finally, value engineering sez oil filters are cheap compared to oil, cause you only need 1 per oil change whereas you need 7 quarts of oil. So the RP filter costs $4 more than Fram Ultra, and $7 more than rock catcher oil filters, a couple times a year. So what? If a guy can't afford that, he can't afford a $50,000 truck to begin with, with a $9,500 sensitive engine.

Old style fram ultras can still be found in the new style boxes! My local walmart had them

Do they change oil in Da U.P.? It's been awhile since Fram announced the changeover. What happened to the great parts shortage? I know these are made in USA, but usually mfg.'s state nowdays "made from locally and/or globally-sourced components", or some such legal disclaimer blather.

Or is everybody in da yoop telecommuting?

Haha! Ya we do change R oil heer! Most uv us jus go to da quik loob tho

On a side note im shocked how much oil and how many filters my walmart goes thru... where the hell so they go? Only me my dad and my brother change our own oil that i know of lol. Everyone else calls me dumb for changing my own cause "for the same price the oil change shop will do it" well guess what for that price i get premium oil such as mobil 1 and a premium filter like wix xp or fram ultra and they get fram synthetic blend and a carquest filter

Finally drank the kool-aid and ordered RP 20-820s. Fyi ordering 9 from RP direct gets free shipping. If anyone is local to Scottsdale wants a few I'd part with a couple, otherwise they'll sit on my shelf.

These ultra xg2s are HUGE! Bigger than the wix xp 57899 and 51372!!!
rp 20-820 3.81 x 3.81 x 4 inches

fram xg2 ‎4.06 x 4.06 x 4.63 inches

so yes sir, that is some beefy filter right there, stock is rising.

the XG2 has a 12psi bypass valve, only reason I wasn't all over them since my local walmarts alwayas have them.
Still haven't found the rating for the 20-820 online anywhere.

I guess I will have to add a line in my sig, page 93 the popular synthetic oil filters tested including wix which happens to also be mopar..

Wix XP might be the worst synthetic filter imo, but I'd still take it over paper. But why not just use the best synthetic filters? If you have to buy something it mise well be the best.

The closest i can get for the 20-820 is 11-17 psi. That value is for the amsoil eao11 from an amsoil dealer data sheet. Im sure the 20-820 is the same since their clones of each other from champion labs. The highest bypass filters ive seen are 22 psi for the wix 51372xp and 16 psi for the srt mopar. 11-17 psi is quite the range

Thanks for the info.
The XG10575 is listed as 16-28psi on fram.com, coincidentally the highest rated filter in burla's graph also.

If the xg2 is 12psi and 20-820 is 11-17psi, unless it's truly 16psi+, I'm still curious what makes the 20-820 > xg2.

XG10575 vs rp 20-820 is only $1 different so no big worry there.
Going to read more.

for whatever reason it seems all the skinny filters have higher bypass pressures for these trucks. Amsoils clone of the 20-500 is 18-24 psi same as their stock size filter

Just bit the bullet and ordered 6 20-820s to get the bulk discount from RP Direct. I just did an oil change recently so I'll be putting oil on the gaskets and put them on a shelf for a few months. :D
I normally use WIX XPs
