Its your money, do what you want. Running full syn and changing below 7500 miles is a waste of money. If your really worried send oil samples out to blackstone and have them tell you to push the oil changes out to 12k lol. I change my factory fill at 4-5k to get all the initial metal I can. Then Full syn and decent filter, I will push to 7500-10k and do another. I've tested the oil on all my rams 14, 18 and 24 and the first 2-3 changes will have elevated metals from break-in but then 10k oil changes and they are telling me to push it to 12k. Oil testing will show if you are leaking gas, coolant, and all the different metals that you won't see or know if your changing at 3500 or 5k.

I can spend other guys money with the best of them Brandon ;) :Big Laugh:. You ever coming back down to civilization again,no snow and + temps here:Big Laugh:
Guess where all the snow is, in S Sask.
Need 4wd truck to get around town, there was a awd chev suv, that sat overnight before they got it moving on the street. Think she hung it up.
But the temp warmed up some , I like the snow, I just wish it was on someone else drive way. This is the 3rd bad storm we have had this fall, Global warming I guess.
The shovel boys came with a bobcat last time.

I have ran 5-8th a odd time on some old beaters and never had sludge like the rover had.
But on the modern stuff, change at the recommended time or before, usally it is time rather then mileage these days, One a year, readout is usally at 60% or so.

I almost find this one hard to believe, but bet they did too. I don't know much about Rovers. Maybe they have a sludging problem anyhow. I'll. Stick to my 5k intervals. Enjoy!

Grease is cheaper than steel. I will change every 5 k miles knowing I have plenty of buffer if it needs to stretch due to a drive from the mid Atlantic to Alaska or the west coast. Full syn 5w20 whatever is on sale and attains or exceeds OEM specs and a good quality filter that is rated at over 5 k miles. Sadly, my old go to, Wix/NAPA Gold, are now sourced in China. Even Fram is US sourced. Prefer my products from there or Canada so I’ll go that way.

My 2016 1500 Hemi has about 140 k trouble free miles and no funny noises. I’m old and drive gently but not necessarily slow! Take care of the equipment.
Same here. I don't go out and find the rev limiter between each gear. Maybe 30 years ago I exercised the engines hard, but I don't any more. In my career I logged +/- 1.25M miles running service and at least half that many for personal/recreational driving. I've been involved with the managed maintenance of some of my crew's fleet vehicles as well. Proper maintenance goes a LONG way in preventing failure or premature failure.

Agree with you 100% on doing UOA's but instead of using Blackstone even if you don't have an Amsoil account the non postage paid UOA kits are $26.55 ($22.15 if ya have an membership and last time I mailed on in it only cost me $6.40) btw they use the same lab as Fleetguard/Cummins, Amsoil kits also include TBN at no extra cost unlike Blackstone that will charge you an extra $10 for TBN.

I've had some diesel motors in the past and a 1998 6.5TD now. Every diesel i ever had soots up. Heck, after an oil change you can still see residual soot in the fresh oil on the dipstick. Every diesel forum I have ever seen suggests shorter 3-5K OCI with a filter. I can see that you want to extend the OCI and I get that point, but no way would I go that long on a filter. You really need to consider changing that filter midway through that extended OCI.

+1 on this. Oil is cheap in comparison to an engine. You'll get a thousand different opinions on "when" and "what oil" if/when you ask those questions. Like @Atcer2018 said, the 3.6L Pentastar is easy to change oil on (if you're OCD like I am, you'll want to tuck a rag just below the filter housing to catch the drips when the filter is being pulled). I use SuperTech's Full Syn (for that guy about to flame me for that, don't waste your time, I don't care) every 3-4K. $19/5qt jug and 100ml of Liqui Moly added. I also installed a Fumoto drain valve to make it that much easier and cleaner to change. I'm at 95,*** miles currently.
I don't really track actual mileage. I just use the oil minder indicator on the dash. When it hits about 50%, I change the oil with full synthetic and add 16 oz of LubeGuard. So far so good.

Military broke me down, so I let the dealer do the changes for me. I get "bulk" coupons (which work out to roughly what a JiffyLube would cost with regular oil for each change) and, so far, have had a good relationship with my dealer (granted I am on the 3rd dealer since I bought my truck) for the last few years. They change the oil and rotate my tires while I fuel up on their (surprisingly good) coffee and snacks and watch part of a movie. Its actually not a bad deal for me all in all.

I try to go about 8000 km between changes. Synthetic oil, good oil filter, and new air filter every time. I've been a diesel mechanic since 09 and I've never seen any problems from slight over servicing. Lack of service on the other hand.... With the dealer wanting 7 - 9 Grand to swap or rebuild an engine I'd gladly spend a couple hundred to service it myself
