I just installed my Jet 180 tstat tonight and was curious if anyone of y'all that have installed a 180 tstat drove after install to get more coolant? I attempted, but I guess it lost A LOT for coolant than I anticipated. The temp shot up like a rocket. It was funny to listen to the engine suck what coolant was left out of the radiator. But wanted to see if anyone else saw this, or if y'all were smart enough to buy coolant before haha.

Also, after getting more coolant I drove up and down the road to see how it did. It's staying at 185 and not fluctuating at all. I'm happy that it's cooler than 200, but did y'all see this at first too? Should it drop down to 180 after a day or two? Should I pull the negative terminal on the battery to reset the computer? Just curious what y'all saw after install.

My 180* usually fluctuates between 186-188*. I would let it run on an incline for a bit to clear any bubbles in the system. Otherwise add more and you should be good if it's under 190*

on the move..

It should hold at 180. I read on here you want to make sure the hole is at 12 oclock or it could get hot. It also sounds like you got an air bubble in your system if your temp is spiking like that

Mine stays 180-185 most days. If I'm on the road over 100 for extended periods of time it rides up to 190 and stays.
I bought more coolant before the change, I wasn't sure how much I would loose, about 1 1/2 gallons total.
It does sound like you've got a bubble.

I did set the tstat where the overflow valve was at 12 o'clock. The removal of the hose and water stock tstat did relieve a bunch of fluid. So when initially started up, there was no pressure to pull fluid from the radiator into the engine. I believe that had a lot to do with it. I'm parked on an incline for the night, so hopefully tomorrow I'll see it fluctuate around 180. At idle it moved from 179 to 181 to 183 to 181 to 179 and basically stayed there. It was while driving that it went to 185 and stayed.

That's totally normal, or exactly like mine. In stop and go traffic it will go up a bit to. No worries my friend.

You're fine man. Sorry if my reply sounded rude. I wasn't meaning too. You were correct in your post, and it's always good to post up things, even if you're unsure. It's a good way to learn and feel confident in your knowledge. That's how a lot of my knowledge (which is not much by the way haha) came to be. I've probably made no telling how many posts that required others to confirm or correct me. It just makes me feel better about what I know when I do mods. My first mod was pretty nerve racking because I will still new to a lot with mechanics. And still am. Again, I'm sorry if I came off rude with my post.

Naw man it wasnt that it was the fact I said it wasnt normal then other people posted up it was, just didnt want to build a bad rep on here shooting off wrong info. I didn't think you were rude at all.

I know what you mean. It's even worse when someone refuses to admit it and comes up with BS to try to make them sound right. But again, I don't think anything you mentioned was wrong info, and you showed your humble character by owning up to what you believed was wrong.

If you didnt change the fan temps to 190 in the tuner. It will jump up to 190-195 sitting still.

Mine did that at time before I got the tuner. Now it stays around 185 in traffic and a cool 178-181 Cruising.

Ya you have to have the electric fan mod for that, and then you have to have a tuner that will let you change it.

I haven't made any changes to the tuner. Right now I have the preloaded 87 tune installed. I already have the custom tunes from Sean, and he took the 180 tstat into consideration when setting up the tune. I will be installing his 89 custom tune tomorrow night. Can't wait! Next week I will be driving my truck till fumes carry me to the gas station just to get 93 octane.
