I just called up my local dealer and asked them that very question about what that battery sensor was for and they pretty much said that it was there to both protect the PCM and protect the battery itself like if the battery was overcharging or if it was getting hot or anything else. Now, I didn’t ask him this, but he never said anything about the battery sensor allowing the usage of both a regular battery in an AGM battery.Sure, if there is one, but this is the 1st I'd seen evidence of one. No one associated with the vehicle could or would tell me.
I also asked about using an AGM battery in my truck and the service writer didn’t think it would be bad and even the guy in the parts department at my local dealer said that because I have a sound system in there, that he actually recommended using an AGM battery but going back to what the service writer said when I asked him about whether or not though this would affect my warranty, all he said was only if the battery caused whatever the issue was, and I was like, well hell, that can happen with any battery no matter what type it is.
