Need to replace my standard battery. Should I "upgrade" to an AGM? Any advice appreciated. 2014 1500 SLT, 5.7 Hemi. Normal electrical requirements . . .no winches, light bars, etc. on truck.

I replaced the AGM battery in my SxS with a Lithium, it was great in the summer months.I have a 2500 cummins with 2 agm batteries, I do like them but whats everyones opinion on LiPo batteries? I have one in my wifes 2021 VW Jetta, Only had it now for 6 months now, other then it is light as can be I don't know that I have any good/bad or other experience with it
I've put an AGM battery in my IH 574 which is an early 70's tractor. It was switched to a Delco 3 wire self regulating alternator over 30 years ago. No issues with charging or startingA bit older and different vehicles, but my 2004 Jeep TJ didn’t do great with an AGM battery. AGM’S need a charge a bit higher than lead acid batteries. Does a 2014 Ram charge as high as needed?
All things aside the AGM in my jeep lasted six years before I replaced it. After sitting a couple of days it would be a bit slow turning over. It just made you wonder if it was gonna fail unexpectedly. The new lead acid battery in it now spins the motor over faster than the AGM even when new.
Just saying. If it’s designed for lead stay with lead.
This is a great question, My original batteries were not agm as far as I know. I have never changed that setting because as mentioned they are just numbers I think it would be better to let the computer know because it changes that charge profile. My wife's 2021 Jetta I put a lithium battery in and the car started throwing codes I went in with a scan tool that has access to make changes and changed the battery type ot lifepo4 and no more conflicts or issuesAlso, when changing battery type, there is a setting that can be accessed by AlfaOBD where the battery type is selected. I have found nothing on anything that shows what types of batteries correlate with the numerical assignment in AlfaOBD.
I even asked (gasp) a service manager in a dealership and he had no clue either.
The settings are there, they obviously mean something (mine is set to 4 and I have an AGM battery) by effecting charge rate, from the computer, for the battery type / size, but it is also a national secret.
In Florida the Lithium will probably work fine. In Canada during the winter, they suck.I have a 2500 cummins with 2 agm batteries, I do like them but whats everyones opinion on LiPo batteries? Good point about the heat/cold problem, I grew up in North Dakota, specifically right along the northern edge so I understand the issues of battery lol. That being said your comparing a expensive name to a Costco house brand. I bought my agm batteries on amazon, they were $150 eachIn Florida the Lithium will probably work fine. As far as AGM, Regualr Lead acid last about 10 years here. I cannot see an AGM lasting enough longer to be worth 65% more new, it would have to last 17 years. If you look at the warranty, full replacement for 48 on Lead Acid, 60 on AGM, both prorated after the full replacement to 100 months.
In Florida, the heat is what kills batteries, it kills AGMs just as fast as it kills lead acid, so why pay the AGM premium.

Costco batteries is all I use in every vehicle, including the ATV and Lawn Tractor. In Canada, you can't beat the price, and no one offers a warranty even close to as good as the Costco one. They also sell a top notch battery that lasts really well. I have tried a few of the "Top Name" brands like Optima. They don't last any longer and are quite a bit more money.Good point about the heat/cold problem, I grew up in North Dakota, specifically right along the northern edge so I understand the issues of battery lol. I agree, costco has top notch stuff, most of it is likely made right alongside top name stuff just without that brand name. I don't challenge your solution in the least, I was just pointing out costco brand stuff will be cheaper no matter what. you could get agm for less then that energizer brand though. if costco carries one even better.Costco batteries is all I use in every vehicle, including the ATV and Lawn Tractor. Sorry, I mis-understood your post. The Energizer AGM I posted above is the Costco AGM battery listed for my pickup and the $329.99 price is the Costco price. Costco sells Energizer and Kirkland here, the Kirkland batteries are made by Energizer.I agree, costco has top notch stuff, most of it is likely made right alongside top name stuff just without that brand name.
