While playing around with compass settings I found the heading doesn't change after making changes until you begin to drive.

In addition, the navigation on a RA4/VP4 appears to be thrown off by the compass orientation setting being set incorrectly. "Right side up" was the right setting for me with a homelink module mounted in the overhead console.

I've looked through the docs on post #1 but am not seeing anything about disabling the "Lawyer Screen" that requires you to press "Accept" or wait for the screen to time out. Is this possible to do with AlphaOBD for my 2013 Ram 2500 Laramie?

You need to purchase a Smart Beam (Auto High Beam) mirror. If your truck currently has a microphone mirror your harness with be correct. You will also need to enable the codes with the alfa tool. Be careful when purchasing the Smart Beam mirror if you purchase it from Ebay or a wrecking yard. They are listed incorrectly all the time. The Smart beam is only an option on the Laramie and higher trim levels. It is standard on the Longhorn and Limited. It is available on the standard Laramie but is not standard. It's part of the group 32 option package. The smart beam mirror will have the camera looking device on the back if the mirror like the one in the pictureab845624b5227c772aaf90886fd6f1cc.jpg

The small square auto dim electric eye on the mirror body itself is to determine the amount of ambient outside light for the auto dim mirror to activate. The camera looking lens in the actual base of the mirror is for the auto high beam to determine incoming headlights to tell your truck to dim it's lights when it has the Smart Beam option.

There is no setting that I am aware if in the alfa tool to disable the press to accept soft key on the radio.

Hey Rick, Did you ever get a word back about the "Power Converter Present" option for 2017 on Alfa?
There is a way to force the ECU 3 setting, but you need the windows version. You would connect to a 2014 BCM in advanced mode, and this will populate that setting in the ECU 3 list to enable.

If by setup you mean, what tools are required to make the changes, then this is an easy follow along video for you. Page 1 in this thread also has all necessary links to get started.

Is this the same for other settings too? When I look at my original backup file I see some settings (like "remote compass present") that I can't see to set in the car configuration change list.

It’s possible for some other settings. Where is the remote compass present showing up under (ECU 3, VehConfig 1, etc)? I don’t see that one in my BCM configuration list, but if I knew where it’s “supposed to be listed”, I can check into it.

Thanks for the confirmation. I spent an hour or so going through the menus yesterday afternoon and didn't find anything either.

Here you go. It's in the first section of settings on mine under ECU Qualifications. When I connect with Alfa I use the 2013-2017 Powernet option, should I try 2014?

I believe those are just qualifications, or, the state that those features are in while the BCM is being read. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the compass module isn’t installed and enabled, but that the BCM is not getting a reading from it at that time. Is your compass heading showing just dashes when you read the system status?

Is it normal for your odometer and your BCM mileage not to match. I just did the 7in swap drove about 2200 miles and now my odometer is reading about 150 more miles then my BCM. Just wondering not a huge deal.

I'm not sure what you mean by reading the system status, but when I install a newer UAS radio the compass reads "--" in the EVIC. If I remove the radio completely or reinstall an older 8.4 RA4 radio it shows just fine.

Does that tell you anything?

Reading the system status (or ID) is what you did to come up with those ECU qualifications.
I’m not sure why yours behaves that way, but here’s what mine are set at for everything (I think) that has to do with the compass. This is a 2017 that has a swapped in 7” EVIC, UAQ radio, and overhead console with homelink.

VehConfig 3 display compass heading present- yes

LIN and misc compass mounting orientation- upside down

LIN and misc EOM present- yes

LIN and misc compass mounting angle- 0 degrees

CustSetMenu 1 compass calibration CSM- yes

Gotta say I am really impressed with this AlfaOBD /OBDLinkMX and what it can do. So far I have done the fog light drop out, global windows down, HID turned on, changed heated seat material type, led fog lights and I think that's it so far. Each thing was done one at a time and worked right away without issues. Was gonna mess around with splash screen but mine already splashes SPORT on start up so didn't want to fool around with any of those settings. I do want to figure out the threshold value for auto headlights but I don't know what the current baseline setting is so not sure what value makes headlights come on later. The last thing I want to figure out is if I can change the remote start values to allow more fob starts before having to start the truck with the key.

I asked about this before. I think somewhere in here one person has said they changed theirs, but I'm not sure which on the two settings they changed. I want to do it, but haven't messed with it yet. Maybe someone else will chime in and say which one they changed and to what value.

I used AlphaOBD on wife's Durango. Everything worked I did (remote for windows, alarm, fogs with high beam, etc) but the LEDs for headlights don't. They flicker. On Ram its fine. Durango, no go. Thoughts?
