Has anyone done a full trans fluid replacement using the amsoil recommended fluid for the ZF 8HP70? Whats your experience snd did you do a full drain and fill x3 to get 90%+ OE fluid out? Always makes me wonder how one fluid can react with another. There must be enough similarities that they are equivalent although ZF will never admit anyone else makes a safe fluid for obvious reasons.

Yes at 10 k with a OEM pan. 20 k now checked it once at the specified temp and was a little over but it handles boost and abuse just fine72784B81-1BFE-4AA3-9EA6-F0CB17274BC9.jpeg08040888-6B0A-433A-974C-17D7C878C596.jpegAC2D0E74-4B61-483B-AEE9-839A28FB1B38.jpeg65A80B9D-A565-48F8-9923-32763D1EF5AA.jpegimage.jpg

While I used Redline in my tranny, I did a drain and fill 3 times to get most of the old fluid out and switched to a PPE pan, it is much easier to access the drain plug.

Nice stash you got there. Right now I have Valvoline Full Synthetic front and rear diff with LS additive and Mopar BW 44-44 xfer case fluids with Redline 5w30 and RP 20-820 filter. Probably will go to the -500 part number next. But I'm wondering if 5w20 will be good oil if using Amsoil as it's impression the Redline having the high ZDDP will provide better upper cylinder protection

Mopar trans fluid is over 2x more expensive and amsoil is the one company besides redline and Ravenol I would trust to put in my vehicle

All I can say is amsoil works for me in everything except the Procharger And archoil that I add to everything at 1.2 oz per qt.image.jpgimage.jpg

Redline in the 8 speeds doesn't have a great rep,it's to "slippery" .It's one of the fluids alot of the better 8 speed tuners reconmend staying away from,as it contributes to more clutch slip. Not sure about AMSOIL's fluid though. If Redline is working for you, you're one of the few it is,but don't say you haven't been warned.I'd use Valvoline Max Life before i'd use Redline in the 8 speed

I haven't noticed any slippage of any kind so far but when doing another change am thinking of using Maxlife as many have said they have good results with it and the price is much more attractive.
I also used the same Redline in my 2011 Ford Fusion as it specs the same fluid and am happy with the results.

For those that can get it to work it actually would be a great thing to run with those operating temps, but yeah a significant number of ram guys have not had good luck with it.

Why in the world are you changing this fluid already? That is insane, unless all of you have over 100,000 miles on those trucks, which I doubt. Damm stop jacking with stuff and enjoy your trucks, good grief! Talk about making your lives harder, WTF!

ZF reconmends doing a transmission service between 80,000 kms and 130,000 kms (50,000 to 80,000 miles) or 8 years which ever comes first.Chrysler says sealed for "life",but so far we've yet to determine what "life" means :waytogo: :Big Laugh:

Yeah, i'm kinda torn because theres a part of me that isn't sure how long I want to keep this truck but since I know for sure that it won't be past 150k miles, I wonder if it's even worth messing with the trans fluids. Plus, it's not like new fluid will aid in better cold shifting which is what I really wish I could make better. When I say better cold shifting I really notice it shifting until about 150F. Must be normal in these things. When I get on it, it's smoother than when I just drive like a grandpa. Old man driving the trans is almost telling me, "make me work harder, p***y" lmao.

real quick, what are folks going with for these cold months for oil and filter? I like the results from the RP 20-820 but all I can see that is different is oil pressure from going from 5w20 mobil 1 to 5w30 redline. i think i will have to go with the -500 filter due to inventory shortage of the -820. I've only put 3k miles on the RL/RP combo so i imagine i'm probably good to just change every 5k or 7500 with that quality although with it being so damn cold where i'm at, thinking of going with Redline 5w20 until it warms back up again (6 more months or so).

I run oil pan heaters on my 2 winter beaters here in Alberta. It's amazing the differance in how they start with an oilpan heater compared to a block heater, plus a 125 watt pan heater is cheap to run in comparision to a 700 watt block heater.Oil filters i took care of several years ago on the truck, lol

As far as I know the ZF material is a proprietary fluid with a patented recipe. I'm not aware of ZF licensing this product except for Mopar.

ZF has licensed their fluid to just about every OEM that uses the 8HP trans. But that's just a branding exercise and they all cost way more than the Redline or Amsoil, etc. fluids.

FWIW, i put Amsoil in my front and rear differential and in my transfer case about 110k miles ago. No known issues. I also use Amsoil in my ZF8-70 transmission. No Issues there. I am driving a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi, 216,000 miles. I should tell you that I had head gasket leaks on the passenger side. I took it to a mechanic friend. He heard things I did not hear. He heard sounds on the drivers side also. To abbreviate this story some, when it was finished, he had replaced the cam and on cylinders 5 and 7 he found stuck lifters and cam lobes that were rounded. He said the old drain holes were too small and so the valves and lifters were running dry. I also had a Diablo tuner that made a noticeable difference when I re-tuned the engine. To shorten this story, further, before it was over, he reamed the oil passages a few thousands larger, put in a new performance cam, replaced some lifters and valves, of course he fixed the exhaust leaks, and he re-tuned my Diablo tuner with some new software. My engine has greater performance now, the auto shut-off of 4 cylinders for fuel economy now run 100% of the time, my fuel economy is better, and I change the Amsoil engine oil every 5,000 miles per the cam manufacturers instructions. My brother has a 2019 Ford F-150 with the Coyote V-8 in it, and my truck is faster, and quieter than his truck. I do not use oil, and it seems to run great!
