So I took my 2013 Ram (112k miles) into the dealer and they diagnosis my Cylinder 3 misfire as needing the Cam and lifters replaced. So my question is for people that have had this issue. My CEL light only comes on under load then it goes off. The engine misfires bad over 4k RPM. Is this the common symptom for this issue or should I try some other areas before tearing into the motor

Very common issue, search hemi tick whether you had it or not. In you don't mind what oil brand and interval were you on? Also did you stick with 5w20? Sorry fr your troubles, if you know the cylinder you can swap a plug, but it is a very very common occurance and a weaknesses with the ram hemi. The other forum has documented this for years.

It's probably wise to stop driving it ,till you replace the cam/lifters etc. If the dealer diagnosed it as cam/lifter failure, they are probably right, and you'll want to replace the cam and lifters before driving it farther.

Read Kurtis's excellent How-to on cam swapping the VVT 4th Gen Hemi's.The swap isn't hard, just time consuming.

@Burla It has been serviced exclusively by the dealership for all 112k miles not sure what brand oil they typically use.

@Wild one I try to limit driving it but having 4 kiddos to run around it's hard to be a one vehicle family right now. I was hoping there might be another thing to try besides spark plug and coil pack being bad....well time for some goodies from HHP or Moes

Here we go again, yet another lifter failure that ate the cam. Sorry for your troubles, that really sucks. Guy on YouTube replaced his lifters with Hellcat lifters, his name is Frostbite Ram. Worth watching his videos is you want to upgrade.

What Cam model did you install and who is doing the tuning?

I got the comp 266 package from HHP with the email tuning. While I had it apart I also put on Stainless Works long tube headers and changed the pushrods. If I have to do it again I am paying someone....lol

Was planning on a future 260ish to improve midrange torque, let us know how you compare to stock cam. Although with long-tubes you took a huge leap doing the combo!

Tear down for Greene cam, stock cam & lifters still look good at 75k with Mobile 1 5w-30 & Mobile 1 filter.
Ram had 36k on it before I owned so not sure what oil & filter was on before.
No broken exhaust manifold bolts or studs either.

Mine did not do any misfiring or anything, just heard a metallic tick for a couple days before it went to the dealer. They replaced all lifters and camshaft.

Pretty informative video! Had to wonder, though, if that Lincoln was even worth repairing...oh, well.
