Hey guys, I just finished a camshaft replacement, got it all back together cranked the engine and cant get it to idle. If I press the gas it will stay running but if it drops below say 1500 to 1000 RPM it dies. Any advice on where to look? It's a 5.7 hemi 2012

sounds like timing may be off Did you do it the right way and pull the oil pump so you can set it 100% with the marks or did you do it the lazy way like most of us and wing it with the pump still on. I found out the hard way was worth it to pull the pump. Also make sure your alternator is hooked back up. Re check all vacuum lines and all other plugs ect..

run code, "maybe" camshalf position sensor as well, it shuts down to protect the engine. Other then that it might be fuel or air, kinda of doubt "spark".

cam install thread.

Everyone else that replace cam with this issue either bent a pushrod or timing was off.

But if it was a bent push rod it would only misfire on the cylinder the bent rod is on. I'm getting a random misfire with leads me to believe it could be the timing.

I hope so, but we get a lot of bent rods often, thus random misfire happens.

Either timing is out or a bent pushrod are the most likely issues.

A bent push rod can cause other cylinders to misfire not just the one cylinder. The valve not opening or not opening properly can disrupt air flow. Same thing can happen with a broken spring. I’ve seen one broken valve spring on a hemi cause it to not start at all, and if it would start it would have a dead miss on half the cylinders.

Start with the easiest things, check all your coil/injector connectors. Make sure there’s no vacuum leak.

Do you have access to a scan tool that can read data?

Did you make sure the head gaskets were on the correct side?

The gaskets have a TOP and L and R stamped on them. See what happens after you get the gasket fixed.

Head gaskets are an easy seal with modern fully-machined components.

It should be P or D because you never know if they mean left from drivers seat or facing the engine.

It's usually always from the seat, left or right is still left or right even on a right hand drive vehicle.
