has Anyone put magnaflow cats in a 2013 1500 5.7? I cut my cats off and my mpg dropped dramatically. I want to put the magnaflow on because it’s a lot cheaper than the oem. Will they cause a cel.

You need a tune for going catless. You will get your mpg back & pick up some power left on the table. I suggest getting a custom tune from Jay Greene

How do you go about doing that[/QUOTE
Get a tuner like a diablosport and have him write ya a tune for your truck without cats. He’ll make the propper changes to get the gain from going catless and it should also shut off the codes it’s throwing.

Has anyone taken the stock cats off and gutted them out? I ask because just about every aftermarket cat fails smog in CA.

Just wondering if I can gut them and run the custom tune, and still pass smog numbers.

Thoughts?

i dont think you can pass smog or any type of inspection other than visual. I had cats hollowed out on mustang and tuned and it passed visual inspection. The cats hollowed out are pretty much straight pipe

So the exhaust will just not get hot enough to pass then.

I would leave the cats off. You can get a programmer to tune out the rear O2s, but it depends if you have emission testing for your state inspection. Tuning the rear O2s out, basically put them in open loop, so the monitors for the cats will never become "ready". You can go to www.bigdaddiesgarage.com and get the foolers. They are basically spacers with the honeycomb (cat material) inside. They are 50 bux each I believe.

Wouldn't an O2 cheat do exactly the same thing for a tenth of that price?

By "O2 cheat" are you talking about just the spacer you can get from a part store? If so, you can try that, but they will not always work. I just like the ones from the site i posted because it is guaranteed to work because there is cat material inside the spacer. I forget, but I also believe there is a lifetime warranty on them also. I ran these in my '05 Ram from about 50k miles, until I got rid of it when it had 120k.

Oh. I've always used them.. Never heard of them not working. For about 3 or 4 bucks you are good
