I have a 2017 1500 sport. Today I was wiring in some footwell lights and soldered LEDs into the existing footwell light wire. Everything went fine, lights work, but now I cant start my truck.

Everything turns on, I have no messages, the OBDlink says I have zero faults. The truck turns over but never catches. I checked the fuel pump fuse which is intact. I am out of ideas.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Disconnect the battery for a little while and see if that helps

You might have blown a fuse while soldering if you did not disconnect the Battery.. I would look for a blown fuse..

Check for a blown fuse as stated above. Also use alphaobd to check for codes in the rf hub, bcm and engine

I had originally checked a few fuses like the fuel pump fuse but I just went out and checked every fuse. All are intact. At this point I feel that it has to be a computer issue. alfaobd is showing no faults and nothing on the status in sticking out as incorrect. I am going to go through the alfaobd app and try and find anything that could be causing the issue.

Alphaobd is a $50 app (Google play store or download for windows) that allows us to connect to just about all computers and modules on our trucks and make changes similar to what a dealer can do but this app gives us unrestricted access. It is limited to only adding factory features or enabling factory features that can be used with aftermarket parts with some knowledge. Obdlink is a obd2 reader that works in conjunction with alphaobd. So with a android device or windows device and a obdlink mx you basically have a dealership grade code reader and scan tool. There is a massive alphaobd thread that lists everything people have done. Few examples are adding drl's, enabling hid to eliminate the need for canbus adapters same for led's, adding keyless entry/push button start, lowering tpms thresholds and changing tire size.

Okay, new development. I got a fault in Alfaobd. It is as follows:
U0156
Lost Communication With Electronic Overhead Module
Last test completed positively
Error intermittent
Failure warning lamp 'ON': Not Requested

Just tried to google overhead module and all I was getting is overhead console module. Do you have the upper console with map lights like this?

Does it still work if so?

I do and the lights still work. Also has the power back window on there and that also still works. As far as I can tell, everything else works on the truck except for its ability to start.

Wow. Thank you. That was a great explanation I don’t think I would use one but they sound great. I have a
Laramie and it has more bells then I could wish for All I need to do is replace the keys my wife lost two months in to the ownership of my truck. I have learned so much for all of you

This might not *seem* to have anything to do with your issue, but we gotta use that fault to start somewhere- does your homelink work? If you don’t have it linked to a garage door, with the ignition in run, hold the two outside buttons down and see if it says something like “clearing channels”.

Update: Got it started. The problem, I have no idea how. I went through everything I had done with the wiring previously (had already returned everything back to how it was). Tied everything back up, hooked up my odblink to run a realtime diagnostic, tried to start it seeing what the diagnostic would pick up (was looking mainly for if the PCM was picking up fuel through the lines). AND it started. Have no idea what fixed this issue but at this point I don't care. I've spent hours trying to figure this out and just happy it's over. For anyone that has this issue in the future, I'm sorry but I have no idea. Just check over your work I guess.

Thanks Jimmy, I thought about this when the overhead module was brought up and my homelink did not work with my garage door. However, I didn't really think anything of this because I had reset the battery probably a dozen times by this point and figured homelink would be one of those things you need to reestablish. Thanks for the help, it's appreciated. For now, we are in the clear on this issue.

What soldering iron did you use? If it is a weller type, current goes thought the tip and will kill computors. You can ground your wires, but again ,bad idea with these new trucks. Back in old days , did not matter.
