DIY 5.0 to 8.4 Navigation upgrade

I just have the dummy plug and I have the 3D maps.

The 3D maps have nothing to do with 3G or XM, plus you have the newer maps which may contain additional 3D maps that you did not have before who knows. But every 8.4AN has them loaded, the 8.4A radios do not.

If you can accomplish the above , what is the year of your radio ? What is the year model of your truck and what Radio did it come with ?
What SW Version do you have ?

CuylerTech resolved my issue, I can say He does as he says and sent me a new harness. Now everything is Great working and 7 speed fan is awesome. Everyone this is the best mod ever. Harness Connection Great Job. CuylerTech is the best, walked me thru the whole upgrade. GREAT PREFERRED VENDOR

My unit is out of a 14 as well according to the wrecking yard I got it from. As I stated the voice text worked when I got it but it had old Firmware. It worked but it worked horrible I would have to repeat myself over and over. As I think back now I am not sure it was ever realy able to properly dictate my texts but it tryed. I updated my firmware because my A/C controls didn't have a soft button for Max A/C and my radio was locking up on XM chanels. Don't remember what my original firmware was but it had blue icons instead if the orange I have now. I installed the 14 25.5 firmware and all of my other issues were resolved. The radio worked perfectly and the Max A/C soft key appeared on my screen but if I tryed to use the voice texting it says I need a subscription and I haven't been able to get it to voice text since. Would a pretty big long shot that some type of subscription expired at exactly the same time I updated my firmware. I have since installed the latest 15 something update and it still doesn't work.

Annoucement: We now are building extended length harnesses! Now you can relocate your HVAC module to the factory mounting location behind the glove box. Simply Select it from the drop down menu on the harness selection page on our website.

1. On the website it only shows 4 speed extended length. Is there one for the 7 speed?

2. Where exactly is the factory location?

Updated.. Factory location is behind the glove box to the right on the steel support for the side of the dash.

Yes, but not one that runs to the factory location! I need the space behind the radio. After wiring in the lockpick and adding 4 cameras, it is a very busy area!

There is a chance that my unit is still under a subscription. I do not plan on updating the firmware, and will keep you guys posted if I lose voice-to-text at any point.

There seems to be so many variables to the software on these radios. Its possible that the upgraded version that Rick's Ram installed required an over the air sub subscription confirmation from useless connect. And when it was not confirmed the voice text portion of the software was disabled.

Why some folks get certain things seems to be a mystery? When we first were developing the conversion harness, there was a guy on the other forum who claimed he had WI-FI access on his. Though he was quite adamant about it, it seemed highly unlikely given the fact he was located in Canada. Canada does not have the infrastructure to use useless connect. The radio he installed was a VP4 NA so he certainly had the correct radio for it. The other part of his claim that made no sense was that he had it working for several months. useless connect only sells the WI-FI subscription by the day, week or month. So even if it was from the donor vehicles subscription it would only be no more than a month. But who knows?

Take mine for instance, I bought my radio from Jared4.7 its a 2015. He installed and updated it to the latest firmware at the time which was only several month back. When I installed it in my truck which would be at the least the third vehicle it has been in, I got 2 of the 4 via mobile apps (Slacker and Pandora). I asked Jared4.7 if it had those when he hooked it up and he said no. To my knowledge I am one of only a few upgraders, who actually have any of these apps. Why only 2 out of the 4. My first thought was that the donor vehicle owner had placed those 2 in the favorite apps and they just stuck. But why did Jared not see them?

I'm sure the folks at useless connect get a good chuckle out of watching us spend so much time and effort trying figure this out, when they already know these answers.

Pardon my wandering here, but my basic point is that they do have the ability to put checks in the updates that would require the radio to contact useless connect and verify a valid subscription.

Yes that mainly refers to speech to text when using an Iphone because they do not support MAP which is the required protocol on the 8.4 radios.

Got my harness from CuylerTech on Wednesday, ordered Saturday night. Amazing guy to deal with and I am extremely happy The harness looks OEM and was here lightning fast. I'll actually get it hooked up this weekend, hopefully. Don't hesitate to grab one from him! Thanks again brother.
