So, the totals are thus:
Parts - $4489.74
Amazon - $446.94
Other - $200 (WalMart, Oreilly's, etc.)
Tx+Sh - $544.17
Figured about right:
Almost $5700, damn.
No wonder my a$$ hurts....lol

I think this should be it, unless I run out of brakleen or something small (I hope).
I did buy a borescope. A little late now, but it will be here today, I think.
Maybe I can use it to see if the pushrods are seated in the lifters.

Driver side head is done. Just have to clean the sealing surface on both heads before install. 
One thing I didn't care for, was the cheap valve spring compressor tool I bought from Amazon. It worked but the angle was a little off on the arm.
I had to jockey the springs a bit to get them where the keepers would go on right.
Almost time to bleed and install the lifters.

When I used my tool to remove the original springs, the keepers woud not release from the retainer and would just push the valve open.
I had to use a large c-clamp with the cage from the new one to get the keepers to release from the retainer.

Did you swat the valves with a dead blow hammer,before trying to remove the springs.retainers and keepers.They usually need a good swat to help unseat the keepers before you install your valve spring compressor.

Yes, but no dice on the hammer.
The c-clamp broke them loose pretty easy, I had to put the cage from the new compressor over the retainer and run the clamp screw against the bottom of the valve. It waa a little tricky, but not too bad.

We finally got the headers late Monday afternoon Ed,we would of fired it up last night,but with open headers the neighbours would of probably strangled us at 10:00 on a Tuesday evening,lol.
Yes it's a 6.4 with my ported 5.7 intake,and it works better then his original ported 6.4 intake.Yea i don't follow the mainstream

I usually just use the socket and hammer method to pop the valve keepers loose. Re-installing them is always a pain. Keep up the good progress!

I had my own fun this week, our 7 month old puppy all of a sudden started falling over to the right, so we were at the emergency vet for a bit. It cleared up in about 90 ninutes, think he got hold of a lizard or something toxic.
Top it off, our older dog might have cancer in her bone on her hind leg, got a 2nd opinion scheduled, it does not look good, she is doing ok now and getting spoiled, but might not have much time if it's as bad as we think.
Pup on left. MaryAnn on right, it's gonna kill us to lose her. Please pray for her.

Yeah, she's a great dog, my Wife is taking it the worst.
The dog had TPLO surgery on both hind legs, but 6 months apart, was 5k per leg. Since we've gotten the diagnosis, I saw a study that was published that said dogs that have the TPLO procedure are 40 times more likely to develop Osteosarcoma.
On the disclosure sheet before surgery it says cancer is a risk, along with numerous other disclaimers. Had we known that high of cancer risk, we would not have had the procedures done.
Probably too late now.

Oh, jeez. I didn't know that either. Hopefully that's not what it is. We had TPLO done on our dog (also looks like a Rott) and paid to have the 2nd leg done but the Doc (giant Rolex on his wrist) said the dog's knee was too large for his saw blade or some nonsense. Cost $1k just for a shave and an X-ray! I was livid.

MaryAnn is now 7 years old. Her right leg was done in Feb. of '23, and she blew the other one in Oct. of '23 (very common to have 2nd one go after the 1st, another tidbit).
We went into hock pretty good over it, got the 1st op paid off in a year, but not the 2nd one when my work got slow, and they backcharged us about 3k in interest when that happened (good old CareCredit). It is what it is, and it blows (with a capital SUCK).

My sister had to put her Great Pyrenees down a couple of months ago, due from it playing in bayou water, it contracted some type of water borne parasite that ate up it's nazal cavity up to the base of its brain, a terrible ordeal for the dog and my sister. No surgery was going to repair that ...

We got it all back together Ed,with no leaks,and it's had a couple tune revisions,so it's making the 155 mile trip to the track and going drag racing today,to see how much differance his cam and long tubes make 
He's hoping his 10 grand Canuck in mods takes a 1/2 sec or more off what it ran last time out,me i'll be happy if it takes 2 or 3/10's off

CHECK THIS OUT!!!
On a whim, I decided to dissect my bad lifter, #5 intake (non-MDS lifter) . Here is what I found when I removed the roller pin:
The pin itself failed and the needles ate away at it. Also, the needles are slightly tapered on the left, you can see the corresponding wear on the roller pin.
Here's how the roller pin was oriented when removed:
Additionally, at first, I could not depress the center of the lifter that the pushrod operates.
When I used my little bleeder pin tool on the check valve it was as if it were stuck, and then freed up. Not sure if that played a role in the demise of the lifter/cam, but.....????
If I ever make it through this repair, I may just dissect the rest, too. Especially both #8 lifters, because thats the other two cam lobes that were starting to fail.

Ok, lifters are in and torqued. Block surfaces are clean. Heads can go on tomorrow morning.
Do I need to push each lifter forward in the tray so that it's roller can contact the corresponding cam lobe?
I figure it will happen anyway once the pushrods are in and the rocker arms are torqued down, but wasnt sure if I should do it before installing the heads, to remove the play.
Looking to see what the FSM has to say.
