Hey folks,
I have a 2011 ram 1500 Sport 4x4 with the 3:55 gears. On my front diff cover the plug is rubber and to the passenger side about half way down, maybe 3/4 down. I’m wondering how much gear oil is suppose to be in it. I have a leaky cv shaft seal on the passenger side, very minimal leak. Added some oil this evening but wasn’t sure how much. I just put in until my finger nail touches the oil (bent top of finger). I heard to use you’re finger tip inside the hole until it touches the oil, should be just a finger nail into the fill hole?.
Another one I heard was fill until it comes out?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Seal being replaced within the next 2 weeks anyhow.

Thanks!

The one I have also read in some tech spec write ups is a small L shaped allen wrench inserted short end and spin and if the fluid touches the tip it's full which would be pretty close to your bent finger.

I just fill mine until just below the fill plug level and call it good.
