I bought a single cab Ram 3500 with the CTD. It has 4 gauges in the dash - fuel, DEF, mph & rpm.

CFA only makes the single cabin SLT or Tradesman, and because they were offering 12k off MSRP on trucks on the lot, it would have been stupid to order the exact options I wanted (and extra gauges probably wasn't an available option).

As a control freak, it drives me nuts that there isn't an oil pressure, water temp, voltage, EGT, boost or any other gauge that I'm used to having.

Has anybody done gauge upgrades?
Anybody using a tabled and Torque (or some other) app?
Is an A pillar pod the only good option?

I'd love to see what you are doing to get some basic info from your truck.

Wow, I don't think I have seen a newer truck that stripped down before with no temp or voltage gauge? Anyway, I know some have been able to swap out the the dash before But it was on a higher trim and they had to have the dealer flash them to match the VIN I believe. Not sure on your truck though being that is pretty basic, may not have the wiring etc?

With that said using the Torque app on a phone or tablet will surely work or something like a Edge Insight CTS can monitor all of those things and more. I use the torque app on my phone to monitor some thing that even the higher end dash does not and it works pretty good.

You can upgrade to the fancy gauge with no issues. It’s ok if and play. Just cost a lot...

By limiting the single cab trucks to SLT or Tradesman, it leaves a lot of stuff off. It's a great truck and I have the same engine and trans as everybody else, just not all the bells and whistles. The gauges are the only thing I feel I'm missing.

Do you remember which OBD reader you bought? Torque may be the easiest option.

Other than the EGT temp all the rest you are looking for would work with a unit that plugs into your OBD port. To add the EGt temp you'll need to tap the exhaust, either pre-turbo or post turbo, to get a reading.

Since I was going to delete and tune my truck I needed something that would hold the tunes and monitor the engine accordingly. So my solution is probably a bit more expensive than you would need. However, here it is, an Edge CTS unit:

It is mounted in the A pillar.

There are some simple monitors out there from EZ Link, Insight, GDP, Bully Dog and others. Some are an integrated unit that also have programmer functions if that appeals to you.

Good luck!
