I mean its like i said, i just dont know any better. I do most work on my truck and past vehicles but i have just never really dealt with the the exhaust system from the cat to the motor. when i looked up there on the passenger side there are some hoses that are pretty dang close, especially when you put the headers that stick out more than the stock manifold.

At my old shop, we replaced all bolts & cleaned everything. My advisor didn't like selling extras if he wasn't comfortable, so very few manifolds. At my current shop, we replace only the broken & manifold. The advisors won't push for extra/all new bolts. Shop by shop basis & if warranty, depends on how much Chrysler scrutinizes their warranty claims.

really thinking about it. Looking at the AFE shorts, just dont know that much about headers in general. I like them because it fixes the problem without needing to do any tuning to the truck. Only thing im not sure about is the heat coming off of them and the components around them with that heat. AFE says not to wrap them so im kinda curious about if anyone has any heat issues

have the shorties ceramic coated. i bought some kooks shorties and had the ceramic coated (still haven't gotten around to installing them yet). that will help contain the heat some without wrapping them.

Ceramic coating is the way to go with any headers.

It does keep the heat down and I was always amazed at how fast they would cool down to point I could touch them.

Us HD guys can't use shorties - ARH only specs out long tube headers for us. At least with the big Hemi 6.4. I suppose it needs higher exhaust flow porting or some such.

I plan to go this route, but it's expensive. ARH doesn't offer ceramic coating with them, either, so I'll be looking to wrap or otherwise keep the piping away from meltable components. Thank goodness at lease spark plug wiring is on top of the head these days.

We have had our 2010 in three times to get exhaust manifold bolts changed. The first time under warranty the other two times out of pocket. Absolutely ridiculous a fix or different bolts or something hasn't come along.

Question.... How do you get a warning or dash light that there is a broken manifold bolt? I am not an engine or machanic guy, how would I know of the problem?

Is this a recall issue? I somehow rattled 1 bolt out complete, and 3 others were backed off about 50%. Thought it was sheared off but it just backed itself all the way out and fell on the trail somewhere

So how much were shorties to buy? Do they bolt right up to the existing exhaust pipe or do you have to modify it?

No recall for it.

You would hear a ticking, most noticeable on a cold start.

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Bighorn 4wd, 5.7 with 89,000 miles. Love the truck, great truck thus far. I have had both manifold studs replaced, pass side at 60k, driver side at 70k. I think towing makes this happen a little sooner then not towing. I purchased the high dollar lifetime warranty when I bought the truck. As far as I can tell, all studs and manifolds were replaced at the dealership. My son has a 2014 Ram Sport. I just replaced the pass side studs and manifold two months ago. The two back studs were broken off flush with the heads!! Utube the process using a washer/nut and welder, worked perfectly!! I'm interested in the shorty headers but don't want to void my warranty if something should arise.
Thoughts??

Wondering if I should buy the "upgraded" bolts and have this done pro-actively. Anyone know of a qualified MOPAR shop near Blue-Ridge GA, or Western NC around Murphy? The dealer would charge a lot, I'm sure.

The indicater at first start up in the morning you hear a tic tic sound .
I almost sounds like a lifter tic. Put your ear between the tire and fender well, you will be able to hear it real clear. If you want to know for sure? Put a wrench on one of the two back manifold nuts. They should also be holding the heat shield in place. If the stud is broken, the nut and the broken stud will turn and not allow the nut to loosen or be removed. The nut will just spin in place. If it's not a nut holding the heat sheild in place, there will be a missing bolt head. It is hard to see unless u remove tire and inner fender.

It's a little farther than where you asked about, but Crown CJDR in Cleveland TN. went the extra mile for me when they replaced the cam and lifters. Maybe try them.

Just curious, do shorty headers require a programmer to modify engine parameters to account for the exhaust manifold changes?
