Yep, and the first time you make a medium to hard pull and load that 12,000 lbs, or 24,000 snatch blocked, at an angle you will find out real quick why that is a BAD idea.

Just know your limits and position the truck so it’s not at an angle. Very very rare to need to do anything close to that heavy in the first place unless he’s chopping down California redwoods lol.

I don't really see where the winch goes.

It's hidden behind the license plate, kinda Power Wagon style.

Somewhere around the 7 minute point he installs the winch tray. Then around the 20 minute point to see the winch hardware installed on the bumper.

If I were buying a winch, I would get a 24 volt one instead of a 12 volt one, and add enough aux battery pack to make up for the needs.

The other alternative is a hydraulic winch.

12 volt winches tend to over heat.

Chassis Unlimited and Ironman are the only ones that dont stick out the front for no reason.

Odyssey H8 and 6.4L alternator is what I have and never had issue in the mountains and make sure you mount the controller box under the hood. leaving it in the bumper will just corrode it quicker.

Ive been running that 12k Smittybilt for 5 years now, and I gave it some much **** im surprised it still works. I have a cheap Amazon 15K in the rear bumper and in just 1 winter the spool release is already rusted solid. Found that out yesterday trying to pull my F550. Now I have to deal with that ********.

Wireless remotes are a must. And the Chinse ones suck ass for range compared to the Smittybilt. Might want to take that into consideration.

Im never buying a cheapo winch again, I use them to much to have to deal with all the nonsense they bring.

As for wiring, I use 4 gauge welding cable . Dont use that garbage Amazon wire.

The amount these bumpers stick out is comical in some instances. For the price I might just contact move bumpers and get a kit sent out and fab/modify it to what I want. Otherwise it seems options are slim still.

Vice Designs has their hidden winch kit which sits behind the factory bumper which is always an option as well.

I appreciate the input on the setup as well, I gotta see what alternator options I have for my truck with the Ecodiesel. Relocated control box, wireless remote, heavy duty wiring and disconnect are a must if I'm hard mounting this thing.

Time is the hard part for me to come up with these days, which is why I have been looking at the bolt on and go setups. But....most are ugly AF or cheap junk materials.

I'm a little ways out from this as the truck needs a windshield and ucas, plus the new house will be getting time and most of my money and effort, so I'm being lazy and letting everyone here tell me what they did to see if I come across something I didn't know about.

I know this is an older thread. I hit a deer with my truck a couple months ago and had a hard time finding information or photos of the winch bumpers online. I was wanting a heavy duty bumper and had it narrowed down to the Ranch hand sport winch bumper, buckstop bumper, or the warn ascent hd bumper. I love the buckstop bumpers but they were 12 weeks out on making one. The ranchhand and warn were both readily available. The ranchhand was cheaper but I ended up going with the warn bumper. It looks great. It's built heavy like the buckstop. It weighs over 300 lbs without the winch. It will take up to a 18,000 lb winch. I didn't need that heavy of a winch so I went with a 12,000 lb winch. Got a good deal on the bumper and winch. Here's some photos for anyone else who may be looking for one.
