Well unfortunately my 2013 truck is heading to ram dealer tomorrow to get a quote most likely for a new motor. Drove to work got out to unlock shop door and yup!!! Loudest tic I’ve ever heard and sounds like it’s coming from both sides. So going to just assume a lifter or two decided to let go. 122,000 miles. So even if they suggest lifters and cam I will probably just ask to be quoted for a new motor and decide if cost is even worth it or just time to say good bye to the ram.

If headed to the dealer don't forget your lube!

Manifold bolts are quick and easy to check. Hopefully that's all it is in

Yeah unfortunately not many shops around me that do motor work or replace them and the few that claim to I have heard nothing but bad news about. So dealer is about the best option around me and even that isn’t the greatest option imo. I’d tackle pulling old motor out and putting new in myself if I had the space and proper tools to do so but don’t.

That sucks man. Hopefully they'll treat you good. Kind of seems like a lot of shops have gone to the "quicker" repairs (suspension, brakes, etc). Get people in and out without tieing up a bay for a day or 3. Good luck and keep us updated on their findings.

I think it was just posted a day or so ago on here a link to crate motor reasonably priced. I think it was from mmx. Might be an option depending on how much the dealer wants.

Found it. Just an option in case the dealer comes back with an outrageous price. IF you do need or want a new motor.

    ~$4,270 + $1,000 core deposit.

So dealer quotes will likely be double an independent. Add 4k on the 47, you should be well under 10k bucks, compare that to dealer. Other guys are using engines from O'Reilly I think. I'd shop around dealers have been facing horrible financial challenges and they have to make it up somewhere.

Depending on what crazy price they come up with. I looked at MMX and Jasper like you all shared thanks a lot by the way! So if all else fails I may just buy any special tools I’d need to swap the motor out myself come spring when the weather gets nicer. I’d hate to just abandoned the truck over a bad motor when the rest of it pretty solid for a PA truck and well let’s face it trucks ain’t getting cheaper even when shopping used ones.

Worth it to fix, IMO. Crate engine or repair. Buy quality parts, OE if possible.

I work for a dealer they are going to tell you around 10k for a new engine lol. If i where you I would slap a cam and lifters in it and move on you wont have other issues if done correctly. I have done so many of these cam swaps never had one come back also you should up load a video of the noise I can tell what it is by listening.

This is my plan too, when the time comes. I get occasional ticking. I do have a 4-post lift though, and all the tools, except for engine hoist and engine stand (gave those away a few years back, haha).

Shop around for a brand new crate engine. Even online you might find a deal from RAM. I would recommend buying a drop-in engine, a duplicate of yours, with no changes at all required. Makes for a simpler install, with everything a guaranteed fit, and no tuning.

If I can figure out how to post a video of it tomorrow I will. Odd thing is other then a manifold leak engine is quiet when cold starting it’s not till warm up the tick starts and the longer it’s left to run at normal operating temp the louder it gets.

Upload a video to youtube and post the link here its the easiest way. Also some ticking at hot idle is 100% normal for sure try to show us before you waste money at the dealer ahaha.

I’ll start it up now and get it warmed up and take a video but I can promise this tic isn’t the average warm Hemi noise some get haha!

I’d go with cam and lifter job if it was under 100,000 miles and I was the original owner of all them miles. I change my oil every 5k on all my Hemi powered vehicles but this truck I bought used with 90,000 miles. I just don’t want to dump the couple grand into cam and lifters being done to a few thousand miles later something else goes in the motor and it’s gotta come out for that.
