I did my cam and lifters at around 117,000. Don't be afraid because of the mileage. I'm at 150,000. Use's no oil and runs great. Don't be afraid!

Well unfortunately my 2013 truck is heading to ram dealer tomorrow to get a quote most likely for a new motor. Drove to work got out to unlock shop door and yup!!! Loudest tic I’ve ever heard and sounds like it’s coming from both sides. So going to just assume a lifter or two decided to let go. 122,000 miles. So even if they suggest lifters and cam I will probably just ask to be quoted for a new motor and decide if cost is even worth it or just time to say good bye to the ram.

My 2018 threw two codes a week and half ago. P219A and P0303. Took it in last Wed they replaced the Fuel Injectors, buttoned it up and now missfire on #3 and #5, they inspected the Oil Control Valve? Found metal shavings, engine is toast. Luckily I had purchase an extended warranty last November through the dealership. They are replacing the motor. I have 115K on mine.

My 2010 that I had, at around 100+K had to get lifters and rocker arm replaced on the same side. Seems to be a trend with these motors at around 100K that these things fail?

That was a waste of time at the dealership. Wants to tear it down to diagnose it. 1,400$ to tear it down to just diagnose it. Yeah I’m good.

I would pull your oil filter off and cut it open and see if you have any metal in it .
If not I would fix now before you do any more damage.

You could also really check the manifold out , take the fender liners out if you can .
If you are working in snow out side, never mind,
anyone you know have a heated garage and likes booze, or $ for help?

While that is loud it sounds like early stages of a lifter failing. What I would do is change the oil 5w30 some good additive and run it others will post many brands we use on here whole forum thread on it. If your sold on replacing the engine any ways at some point you for sure have alot more mileage left in this engine at some point it will misfire and then its time to replace it.

At around 60000 km I started to get the tick, added seafoam to the gas and after about a month it went away, been putting seafoam in the tank at every oil change( 2 cans as i have a 120L tank) and I now have 175000 km and no tick. Stuff works great. Recently traded it in and the mechanics were astounded that it did have the tick, had the 2020 Warlock

It may seem that way because you are more exposed to people that may have had this issue in a forum dedicated to Ram trucks. It's an artifact of statistical analysis: you will always hear negative comments at a magnitude compared to positive comments.

True, but having a similar issue on an older vehicle, could lead to a trend. Either way, it's not going to deter me from getting another Ram when I decide to pull the trigger. I should be good for another few years.

Had a 2003 Ram hemi with over 150,000 (not gentle) miles on it, sold it to a family member and he's still driving it and pushing 300,000+ miles. Never had to go inside the engine nor has he. I guess they don't make 'em like they used to. Sorry, not helpful I know.

My cam and lifters in my 2013 hemi went out at 143,000. I took it in thinking the exhaust bolts were broken again. It never threw any codes. I caught it just in time to save the motor. They had the truck for 1 month. I had the lifetime warranty so it just cost me 100.00. If the motor has been bad it would have cost 15,000.00. They pull the plenum to see if there is any metal in a valve under there if its clean they can just do a cam job. If I had needed a motor they would have bought the truck for market value and canceled the warranty. I was lucky now i still have full coverage until the value of the repair is more than the value of the truck. A week after the cam job the heater core stopped up. Another 100.00 and I was on the road again. The lifetime warranty was the best purchase I ever made. I paid 2,200.00 for it.

Mine Crew Cab Sport 2014 ; Same symptoms Repair cost $5,000, Cam, lifters, gaskets set , water pump, oil pum. Heads rectified on a Machine Shop & labor. And resulted on a almost a new truck. ‍‍‍

Just an updated lots of metal found so truck was sold for a couple grand due to being a pa truck and rust starting here or there decided to just cut ties with it. So driving the forester around in search of the next ram down the road.
