How To Add Heated/Ventelated seats and Heated Wheel to Express/Tradesman

Is there a good summary of all this information? I'm about to tackle this project with the seat swap harness from here. I just want the heated /vented seats to work off the panel not off the touch screen.

Did you purchase a heated/vented seat harness from M2mods? If not that's the first thing I reccomend doing. They are in the vendor section of this forum. It's a plug and play harness and looks factory. I don't reccomend building your own harness. You will need the 8.4 radio in order for the Vented seats to work and enable all the correct codes in the BCM with the alfa tool.

Yes I purchased the harness and I have the 8.4 radio in my truck. I don't care about turning the seats on through the radio, as long as I can get the buttons to work. I snagged a control panel but ended up getting the wrong one in so they are sending me the correct one with the heated/cooled seat controls.

The controls will actually come up on the screen automatically once all the codes are enabled for the heated/vented seats with the alfa tool. Of course you don't need to ever turn them on that way but they will be there either way. Make sure you take your time when installing the harness. Everything will be clearly labeled but you need to make sure you pin the wires in the correct location.

Well im about to make the leap on this interesting project. Learned a ton reading all through this thread and man oh man, it shall be a challenge. Already hooked up with deereguy and got my harness on order, just waiting now for the limited seats and console to arrive in a week or so. Rest assured, i will have lots of questions and i know all you guys are great with support. Looking forward my frankenram after all the great mod ideas here!

One question for the smart folks, can i replace current steering wheel with a heated one with clockspring, that has the additional audio controls and VR buttons, will this plug and play (besides enabling in alpha) with the current 2015 tradesman setup, or will i need additional wiring?

If you install a complete wheel off of a 13 to 18 ram the voice control and audio buttons will work plug and play with either clockspring. No codes are needed for those features to work. One thing to note is the voice control will not work on the older RA1 non bluetooth radios because they aren't capable.

Remember if you want the heated wheel feature to work you will need to add the correct clockspring along with the heated steering wheel.

I don't reccomend installing a used clockspring unless it was properly removed and was locked in the correct orientation with tape or other means. They are easily damaged by over rotating because the wrecking yards don't secure them properly. Also make sure it's actually a heated wheel and make sure it's for a 13 to 18 Ram. They are listed incorrectly all the time. Make sure you ask questions and get good pictures before you buy it.

Rick...does a Tradesman have the wiring for the heated wheel? The electrical connector for the heated wheel option that is held in that "blue" dummy connector (when there is no OEM heated wheel) that is under the steering wheel? I vaguely remember being told to check if my SLT had that connector before buying the heated wheel.

All of the trucks have the correct wiring and connector in the column for the heated wheel but it terminates into the connector under the steering wheel if you don't have the heated seat wiring from the factory. The only Tradesman that would have all heated seat wiring from the factory would be the regular cab.

OK, that explains it. My 2017 SLT 2500 did not have heated seats but had the connector under the steering wheel and the heated seat wiring since my SLT was an RC.

You must have been using some type of bypass harness to enable the codes, correct? The alfa tool shouldn't be able to connect to the truck to enable the codes without one. It would appear that whatever security bypass harness you were using worked because the tool was able to connect to the truck to enable the controls to come up on the screen. Once the codes are enabled the security bypass harness is no longer needed. One thing I did notice in your picture was that your heated seat soft keys were much larger on the screen than your vented soft keys. When I had my UAS/UAQ radio in my truck which is what you have my keys were the same size. Doubt that it makes any difference but thought I would mention it. It may be because you don't have the heated wheel enabled so the soft keys are configured differently. The fact that you cannot connect to the HSM module is what makes me believe you could have an issue with the CAN connection or the wiring that you installed. The fact that the buttons don't turn on at all could be related to that but I have never tried pushing the switch panel buttons without being connected to the CAN so I can't say for sure. I do know in many cases when people have done this mod and the wiring is correct but all of the codes are not entered correctly the buttons will usually turn on for a few seconds and then turn off. Another thing to note is the 2013 trucks take a different switch panel but they look identical to the 2014 to 2018. To verify your switch panel is correct just use the other buttons like the tow/haul ect. If they work your switch panel should be the correct one. You could also have a problem with not getting power to the two pink wires with yellow stripe when the truck is on (ignition on run). It's obviously hard to trouble shoot when I can't physically see the harness you installed but if I had to bet I would say that's the first place you should troubleshoot. I would double check that all the correct codes are enabled with the tool and verify you HSM module is still attached to the seat and all the connectors that run to it are attached because that won't take long to do and then focus on the harness from there.

I finally had time to look into your suggestions and right off the hope I found I was not getting key on power, checked the trigger to my relay and I had a poor connection so now I guess you have a few more questions answered
Yes you can use 2014 seats in a 2018 truck, all modules still communicate
Your wiring instructions from post 1 work on a 2018
The Z bypass module works for communicating to all systems (but I would still rather pay less money for the bypass harness from Deere Guy)

Now all that's left to do is find a heated steering wheel but that will have to wait till next winter

I do not however have any of the wiring from the heated seat module to center console rear seat switches or to the rear seats. What would it take to add that? Has anyone created a harness for this application?

If you want to wire it like factory you will need to run a separate wire from the PDC into the cab plus add any wiring may be missing. My truck is a Quad Cab which never had a rear heated seat option so it's one mod I haven't done. I think @STecoD did a write in the 4th Gen DIY section when he did his but I'm not positive. You may want to shoot him a P.M. to see what your going to need.

Thanks Ricks Ram. I have a Quad Cab as well. My rears are not heated but my thought was to purchase the OEM parts (seat heater pads, switches) and then run the necessary wiring. Was hoping someone had figured out the wiring and pins/plugs needed.
