Sorry if this is a stupid question but would a uconnect pulled from a 2018 2500 differ in any way from a 1500? In interface or install?

The part number is the same so I would assume not, wanted to verify with the experts if there are any quirks I need to be aware of.

No. They used the same radios in all the 1500-3500 and mega. The only difference would be you fan configuration along with HVAC module.

Gotcha gotcha. Thank you.

So if I was installing a 2018 2500 UAS into my 1500 with Auto temp control, I would need the 2500's HVAC module for temp control to work properly?

Or would the radio function properly plugged into the HVAC module in my 1500?

Is your truck a ‘18? If it’s not then you will possible need a new hvac module. What do you have currently for a radio and temp control? Auto and dual? Manual?

You would possibly need the 2018 HVAC module which is by the passenger side door in between the glove box and the door. Radio and hvac module.

If you have an iPhone you will need to replace the usb hub with a 2018 Ram hub or compass hub whichever fits your mounting for the usb hub

We have had people use the original hub for android auto. But never for Apple car play

Edit. Wait you already have a UAQ. If that’s the case it should be a direct swap for the UAS. The only difference is the UAS just doesn’t have the Nav in the radio. Did you already upgrade the radio at one point? Because UAQ and UAS only are in 18 year models

Whoops I guess I have a RA4, the nav 2016 8.4 screen, I was assuming the UAQ was a general term for nav equipped uconnects. So with that there is a chance I would need a new HVAC module?

Edit: Also are there any tutorials on this? I wasn't aware the HVAC system could pose a problem, don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

Harmon radios 13-17

RA3 non Nav

RA4 Nav

Panasonic radios ‘18. CarPlay and android auto

UAS non Nav. (Note you can not add Nav to the UAS like you could with the RA3. With the new radios. It’s either you have Nav or not. You can NOT add it later)

UAQ Nav

Yes. Radio. Hvac module. And possibly the USB hub.

HVAC module PN - 68366552AA

Your truck should already have everything needed except the HVAC module.

USB hub. Also refer to post #1 Media hub section. You will need to get the compass hub and the adapter from M2Mods because ram changed the hub in 2018

If your 16ram1500 came with a factory 8.4 and Dual Zone ATC then you very likely don't need a new 18 HVAC module. Having ATC is the key to being able to use the earlier module with UAx radios.

You should only need one of the 2018 USB hubs listed in the op and our hub adapter harness.

M² Mods.

I bought a UAS from ebay LkQ out of a 2018 .I tried installing it this afternoon on my 2014, but 2 plugs didnt match up. What am I missing? Main connector and radio antenna is the only ones i could plug in. Also, the radio didnt ask me for a code even thought its an used unit. Radio part number: 68331635AH

There should be 2 matching colored connectors for the curry/mustard sxm and violet/Bordeaux cellular antenna connectors unless the salvage yard yanked the clips off.

Sharp eyes Lawsuit. Looks like the the plastic clips for the SAT and Cellular have been broken off the radio. The cables can still be plugged in but they will not be secure.

If you want to keep the radio you can pull the clip from the shell at the end of the cable on the truck and the plastic shell will come off the cable. The clip is the blue part in the picture MPgrimm2 linked to above. You can then attach the cable to the bare metal connector on the radio. You would need to find a way to zip tie or otherwise secure the cable to the radio for a reliable connection.

I would send the radio back to LKQ for a replacement or refund.

I noticed a few Uax radios for sale from LKQ on ebay recently that were missing as many as 4 of the plastic colored sockets for the Fakra connectors and also the connector for the USB was broken. I thought the USB could be secured but wondered if there was a reasonable way to repair / replace the Fakra sockets?
