I have read through a few forums and seem.to have a slightly different issue.

Basics: 2014 2500 6.4L RWD 66RFE

My reverse does ingage but if I add throttle, it just hits rev limiter, like I'm in neutral. I did jack back of the truck up and it when in reverse the wheels spin. If i throttle, they go faster but wont move truck on the ground.

I already did the test to verify 1st & 2nd do get proper engine braking. So LR clutch is fine. All forward gears are fine, including 5&6.

Engine has been rebuilt a few times by the dealer and I would like to never go back.

Hoping someone has info on the next step in diagnosis. Seems like similar forums are dealing with a different trans than the 66RFE.

I normally do my own maintenance but think this next phase might be out of my capabilities, if trans needs to be dropped.

Ideas?

Easiest thing to do is check the fluid level. if the level is good and the fluid doesn’t appear or smell burnt you can drop the pan and check for any metal filings etc. If that’s all good or bad then either way the trans likely has to come out and be torn down.

Fluid level is fine and looks great.

The trans has been rebuilt a 3 times already. Once before I got it. Once when the OD went out. Then 4 months after that bacause they put a beveled snap ring in backwards. Now it is out of all the warranties...

Whats the move here, get it rebuilt at local shop(they will only install a full unit, not replace parts), or upgrade to something that might actually last? They said jenson has a 66RFE but no more realiable..it just has a 2 year warranty so no more out of pocket.

Not looking to dump tons of money into this but its my work truck and i need it to last... can't be doing trans every two years.

So is 3 years mean it's still under warranty? When was it rebuilt / replaced?
This was correction to my previous post. It was last repaired 2 1/2 years ago by the dealer and no longer under warranty. Obviously, since it was under warranty at that time, they only fix the explicitly broken parts. No full overhaul. My local trans shop said they can install a fully rebuilt Chrysler trans or a Jasper one. They said performance/longevity are probably the same but the Jasper has a 3 year warranty.

These trans issue kill me with work and then needing rentals. Last time the dealer had it, it took them close to two months to finish.

Looking for advice on:

1) paying more for a beefier built trans(the local guy said he has installed monsters but they still fail). It doesn't look like monster even makes a 66rfe version.

2) going with the Jasper built 66rfe and just crossing my fingers.

3) trying to find someone to fix just the input clutch issue. One mechanic friend said cost of that is prob same as full replacement.
