Nitrous!

Sooo I have an 05 Hemi and I'd like to run some spray! My truck has like 145k miles. I have a k&n k intake, magnaflow y pipe, summit racing cutout, and flowmaster muffler. I also have the Taylor shorty plug wires, for what that's worth.

Other than the obvious of buying the kit... What do I need to do to be able to safely run nitrous?

You will need colder spark plugs (NGK 4306) as well as a bottle heater, and a nitrous gauge. If you plan on using it at the track, then most tracks also require you to have a blow down tube and fuel pressure safety switch. It is much cheaper to buy each of these items as a package deal than individually. Check out the accessory kit below...bang for buck, this is the kit I would go with. If you truly want the most out of your kit, then you can also get the stage 2 accessory kit which includes everything above as well as a purge kit.

Nitrous doesn't sound like a very good idea on an engine and trans with 145,000 miles on them, unless you like fixing things.

Would need to run a lower jet unless he gets tuned for it or runs a higher oct fuel. Timing and fuel should be changed per 25 hp increments on the bottle. Work in small steps and read the plugs after each hit.

These would be some of the steps to do it as safe as possible.

That link was just an accessories kit. You can safely run nitrous with a standard wet nitrous kit, bottle header, and a gauge. The blow down tube is required by some tracks if you mount the bottle in the cab, and some also require you to have a fuel pressure safety switch as well. All of these items are included in that accessories kit that I linked to above. If you are looking for a nice budget nitrous kit, then check out the Brand X kit by Nitrous Outlet. It is more than capable of safely running a 150 shot and is much cheaper than many of the other Ram kits out there.

I saw on another tread that timing only needed to be pulled above a 75 shot. Would you agree or should it be done before that? And would running the 89 tune a run 93 be good for the higher octane?

Would it work? Prob, would it be safe, eh not after seeing the stock rotaing asm and ringlands. If you do some looking you will see guys running a 110 mix with 93 and leaving the timing as is becuase it allows more of a safe zone.

I've seen people safely run 100HP of nitrous on a high miler stock motor and not blow it up. Then I've also seen one guy paint the track with engine parts on just a 125... I plan on running 100HP this year at the track.

Average cost of an F/I setup with supporting fuel system, without water/**** $5000-8000. Then you still have to be careful with how much boost you run on a stock bottom end.

The average cost of a complete nitrous kit with all accessories and a gauge comes in right at a grand. Even with a progressive controller you're still under 1300 bucks for a guaranteed X number of horsepower. You still have limitations on what you can safely run, but it's cheap horsepower. You could rebuild the motor with forged innards after you blow it up with nitrous and still not equal the cost of FI. Especially twin turbos.

We install numerous nitrous kits at work, havent done a hemi yet. But the best thing to due is take to a tuner with a dyno so they can safely tune it. We did a zr1 vette the other day with 400hp shot and put down 1002 hp and the motor was as happy as could be thanks to proper tuning.
