Not a hemi tick, I think

So my truck has always done this and I never thought much about it. When driving through a neighborhood or parking lot the truck will downshift and tick like crazy for a few seconds and then stop. My manifold gaskets look good so maybe the lifters? I know the hemi tick is on start ups and mines never ticked on starts just downshifts.

Following. Every Hemi I've heard with lifters ticking is either at startup or consistent at hot idle. Never heard of it ticking only on certain downshifts....

Does it happen during light acceleration around city speeds?

Could be a couple things I’ve seen. One is partial throttle lean knock, which you’ll only ever hear if you have your window down.

The other is the cam sprocket. It can rattle during certain conditions, especially during MDS.

Lifters would be rucking all the time, not intermittently during a downshift.

Yeah our challenger has the hemi tick on start and idle. But my truck only does it when downshifting. And it’s a bit more aggressive.

I don’t recall it ever ticking while accelerating just after letting off the gas rolling through a neighborhood and it downshifts. I do ride with windows down 24/7 as I don’t feel like replacing my evap core. So maybe it’s a “partial throttle lean knock”. If you don’t mind explaining what exactly that is I’d appreciate it.

Does your truck have MDS? if so put it in tow haul mode and then see if it stops my mds made all kinds of noise sounded like a sewing machine when it kicked in at low speeds hence why i turned it off forever.

Yeah I’ll try the tow haul mode. Do you know if the Diablo predator tuner can turn off the mds? Cause I’m pretty sure that’s what is giving me hard shifts every once in a while also.

Yeah it looks like both tuners are about the same price. I do want to be able to change tire size so my speedometer can finally be correct. And gear size when I do my rear so I’ll probably go with the predator. But thanks I did drive around with the tow haul And no more ticking. So it seems this mds is a piece of crap.

Glad that was it its a 100% failed design causes more problems then it does good mds is crap and saves no gas tbh in my opinion makes the cam/lifters fail faster.

Yeah I told my mechanic friend about this the other night he said just about the same thing. After I told him about my 316,000 miles he was almost crapped himself that I haven’t had any issues with it after how many cams/lifters he’s done at around 140,000 on these mds hemi’s. But I’ll do the tuner ASAP and try and get more life out of this ole girl before any failures.
