I learned a lot from trial and error, and gained insight and info from those that have attempted this before me (@charonblk07). I have enjoyed tinkering on my truck in trying to figure this out and that’s where I get the most out of doing stuff to my Ram.

Ok so I finally got everything ordered. I went with the trans dept kit but keep in mind I went ahead and purchased the bigger lines and all the fittings and adapters I’ll need. I also went with stainless steel braided line to dress it up a bit. I went with russel performance fittings and lines for everything and to tie it all up I ended up getting a fumoto valve for easier draining. So for now I will wait about 1000 more miles til oil changing time comes to do the relocation.

Thanks to all for the great advice

Already ordered it as well...... everything should be here by this weekend but I’m still about 1000 miles shy of my next oil change well that’s if I can wait. Did you mount your new filter to the frame? Which filter did you go with or what filter fits the trans dept kit?

Yeah, it’s a Royal Purple 20-253 (readily available at most Auto parts stores), got mine at Pep Boys.

Also, if you look in the pic the filter is a little dented up as I used a strap filter remover. Get a oil filter wrench that fits on a 1/2” or 3/8” drive socket (I can’t remember size, I believe large or second largest size, but got mine at O’Reilly).

Looks good....... also looks like it’s mounted closer to the bed of the truck? Or is it just me

The 30-8A Royal Purple filter is the bigger filter that'll fit your adapter, the 20-253 is the small filter

On the frame, near where the tow hook mount is

As you can see the filter mount is butted up against the vertical frame tow hook mount. You can also see, the hose and fittings are a little tight at the top and slightly touch the lower portion of the fan shroud. That’s what I would change about it’s position if I did it again, a little lower on the (horizontal) frame.

I will mention, I drilled and tapped the frame and tapped the holes on the mount (there’s 3) so there is more purchase and rigidity on the frame than just using the supplied self tapping screws (into the frame).

Just be careful with the fumoto valve, I have one and it pops open and leaks oil. I zip tie the lever shut so it can’t leak.

Yours may be old or defective. Fumoto will replace it for you.

I got the lock clip with mine.

You can also add a piece of rubber hose and place a bolt in the end for extra insurance just in case the valve does open.

If
I’m about to change the oil on my 2017 and I’m getting the remote filter kit. Should I get the trans Dept 1127 or this one with the cooler??

If you're going with a cooler ,you might want to look into something like this to help with warm-up

http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-thermostats/high-flow-engine-oil-cooler-thermostat-p-212.html.

This is another option to use with just a cooler.

^^^^^ as cool as that kit is, it’s probably overkill on a stock or bolt-on 1500 HEMI. Now if we’re talking forced induction I wouldn’t hesitate on getting that kit.

That’s what I was thinking. I’m not that modified. Lol
