Looking at a set of OEM projector headlights for sale locally for a good price. I see that I would need adapter harnesses to be able to use them.
Besides looking cooler, is there really any gain over my stock quad lights? I've rode in my friend's trucks with projectors, but nothing stood out as being over the top to me.
I know lots of guys have done the swap, so is it worth it stock for stock, or would I only see a major difference by upgrading the projectors to HIDs, etc.
Thanks

Stock for stock, I would say no. However, you would definitely see a major difference in projectors and HIDs. I know some have put HIDs in quads but they are also more than likely blinding oncoming traffic. I can honestly say I have not been flashed since going to projectors and HIDs. They concentrate a nice beam of light downward to the road. When adjusted properly, even when pulled up behind an average height car, they are not in their mirrors. Of course, I am not lifted.

The Ram OEM projectors are not as good as they could be (halogen). If they were HID projectors, then it would be a different story. You could buy a set of OEM or aftermarket projectors and do a HID retrofit and have better light output. I know some have put HID bulbs in the OEM projectors, but the HID bulbs are not optimized in the halogen projectors.

I’d say get them at that good price and stuff some good HID’s in the lows and good LED’s in the highs. Hell, you could even do the 9006 swap for your highbeams and have a whole lot brighter output. I did that to mine and quite frankly, I couldn’t be happier. Still using stock bulb classifications of 9005’s in both lows and highs.

Maybe there is better projectors out there over OEM but if you put good of what I mentioned, the stock projectors are pretty badass in my book.

Thanks, that's kind of what I was figuring. I've never fooled with HIDs simply because I hate most every modified vehicle with them, as they blind the crap out of me. I assume they put a cheap kit in a housing designed for halogens and end up light scattered everywhere. Also, I've never had projectors before.

I'll have to weigh the pros and cons after I consider purchase price of projectors plus the wiring adapters.

I'll try to get you some night shots of mine. They just never seem to come out right. As far as the adapter harness, I went with Retroshop. However, I read somewhere recently there is another option out there that is considerably cheaper. Can't say anything for quality though.

I would think a lot of the blinding is coming from the reflector headlights with bright-ass bulbs. So far with my upgrades, I’ve only been highbeamed once but who knows, since lights have gotten brighter over the years, they’re are some folks out there that compare to 20 year ago technology and will highbeam ya anyway even if they aren’t too bright, just brighter than what they think is bright enough. But the one thing about projectors is that the light is aimed. That helps out a bunch.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm considering picking them up, but I also found a set of supposedly like new black TYC projectors with HID conversions locally for $500. The guy says he has $900 in them but sold the truck.
This seems like a good price, but how does the quality of TYC compare to OEM? Also, since I have no experience with HID components, what sort of questions should I ask concerning them? I assume wattage and color temperature. I just don't want some goofy green or purple looking junk like I see with the kids around town, lol. Or something that ends up burning out prematurely.

The OEM Ram projectors I mentioned first are off a new 2018 and the guy is asking $450 and they are stock.
Which would you prefer?

I'm looking for more light, but want to do it right, but while being budget conscious.

Some prefer the TYCs over OEM. I wanted OEM as with most of my upgrades but that's just me. Most go with Morimoto HIDs but for whatever reason I could not get them to work even after hours with Jeremy on the phone/text and email. I ended up with a cheap set DDM Tuning from Amazon...$90. 6500K and 35W. A nice bright white once they're warm. Then matched my fogs with a 6000K LED.

Edit: I went halogen on the high beams. Cut tabs to fit, very bright.

I looked and the TYCs have 35W, 6500K "drop in" HID kits. Thanks for all the information, I'm learning as I go.

I think $450 is a good deal if they are mint.

They supposedly are, but you know how that goes.
I like the thought of doing the upgrades myself, but still kicking around different ideas. It all boils down to the best quality for my money. I've read some headlight builds, but not really interested in splitting open housings at this point. I've done it in the past to replace damaged lenses, but as I've gotten older I don't want to fool with it.

I have TYC projector lights and love them. They still have halogens bulbs but with their clear low beam lens, the light output is waaaaay better than the OEM projector lights that have a glazed low beam lens. I’ve had them over a year now with zero issues.

So....you're not an *******. Thank you for thinking of others. :favorites13:

Not everybody who’s messed with HID’s are assholes. Keep that in mind before you go slinging that around....[emoji6]

I was very sure when adjusting mine that they were aimed properly. I can't stand it when I come up on someone and they're incorrectly aimed. Dangerous...

I’ve never touched mine. They are still aimed to wherever the factory set them at. But, I’ve long since turned off the aero mode on my air suspension so, the front end no longer drops an inch like it did before.

You are correct and if it is you that I offended, I apologize, sincerely.

However, the majority of the people that put these in their cars just don't know, or don't care about the adverse affects and danger they cause to other drivers. I tend to believe more of them don't give a ****, knowing that installing them takes enough brains to know the effect.

I totally agree... with the mindset of people and their attitudes today, they dont give a **** who they offend with their MODIFIED headlights.
The police in my area are now starting to go after these people with modded illegal lighting. Its a great big problem everywhere...PERIOD.
I saw a guy that had a wide LED lightbar attached to his bumper, blinding everybody on the highway... another motorist stopped him and smashed the lightbar off his truck.
Sometimes it just takes a bit of extra effort for people to get the point that you can NOT be out there blinding other people on the road, on purpose. Its dangerous for EVERYBODY.

They have a plug and play kit for non hid trucks. I bought tyc projector headlights and used their kit. I adjusted them properly and I have never been hi beamed from another driver. Very pleased with the whole kit. Jeremy was a tremendous help also with helping with all my questions.
