Recently picked up a 2018 2500 Ram short bed with Ramboxes. After washing it the first time (with a typical garden hose and nozzle), I noticed both Ramboxes leaked pretty badly, enough so that water was puddled up at the bottom. (I also had water pouring into the cab from the 3rd brake light.)

Took it to the dealer. They said they could only replicate the leak on one side and replaced that seal. Fine. Fast forward, took it through a touchless car wash this weekend and low and behold, both Ramboxes were soaked inside. A leaking toolbox isn't much use to me. Is this common? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I have a 2011 and don't have the problem. I'm sure everyone has checked the seal? Could there be too much stuff not allowing a good seal?

It is common for the Ramboxes to seal well enough to keep out most rain, but not the higher pressure directed spray of car washes.

That being said, I took someone's advice here on the forum (I forget whom) to tighten them up. The newer ones aren't adjustable like the older Ramboxes were, so the solution that worked for me; unbolt the bottom piece of the latch, insert some thick metal washers, and bolt back down. This makes the latch catch a little further down, and therefore tighter. I don't get any water in there anymore unless I spray high pressure directly into the Rambox seals from a foot or less away.

I think this is an issue with the Rambox trucks and the 6.5 bed. Seems like most issues I've seen with Ram boxes stem from that design/bed length.

I've owned about 4 Ram 1500's with the Ramboxes all were 5.7 beds and I never had an issue with any of those trucks.

Hi DCZ71,
We're sorry to hear about this. Please send us a private message if you plan to return to your dealer for further inspection so we can provide you with additional assistance during your next appointment.

For the 3rd break light it happens to almost all of Rams. The factory seal is garbage. Take your 3rd break light out and buy some new seal and re seal the 3rd break light

This is what I used on mine when I replaced it with an LED one

M-D Building Products 1033 M-D 0 All Profile Weather-Strip Tape, 10 Ft L X 19/32 in W 5/16 in T, Epdm Rubber, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000I1QHA8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_R-KoDb91A5B5G

I don’t know much about Ram boxes but maybe putting this one as a second seal will help

Mine leaked the first time I washed it too. Turns out I wasn't closing them hard enough. They take a good slam to be "water tight".
