RP 20-820 are gone, what do I do now?

Amaoil straight up said to not use their filter on the Hemi. Not sure what exact one?

Well, being that they “should” be like all the other companies, I highly doubt they’re gonna refer to a non-OE filter just because it fits so if I had to take an educated guess, they’re probably talking about the EA15K50 which is what I ran with the Amsoil SS 5w20 before I put in the the Schaffers I’m currently using and about to change and, I didn’t have any issues with it.

Hmm…. So if Amsoil says they don’t recommend their OE replacement filter for the Hemi engines and being that the RP 10-48 is supposedly the same filter as that, does that mean that knocks out the RP 10-48 as well? After reading this, I guess I am kinda glad I bought the Fram XG10060.

But just for grins a giggles, I found a XG2 and dang, that thing dwarfs the 10060…lol. How do y’all fit them big filters in there?

The XG10575 is a taller than the XG10060 by about 1/2 inch, and a tad taller than the larger MO-899. It is smaller in diameter than the MO-899 and XG2.

(Actually, the XG2 is almost the same identical size as the MO-899.)

I've consistently used the larger MO-899 and have not found it difficult to install, however, I have a two-wheel drive.

If your very major concern is warranty coverage, I guess I would just use the Mopar filter until the warranty expires.

Being that I have one of the last lifetime warranties, the only time it will expire is if I sell the truck or if a future repair ever exceeds the current worth of the vehicle but what kind of advice is that to give? In a way I can’t say I’m surprised because that’s not the first time I’ve heard that but is there something wrong with trying to use the best parts and oil I can within warranty requirements just to at least try not to be a statistic? With that advice I might as well just say screw it and let the dealer put on/in the same junk the factory did when it was built and pretty much just sit back and plan on someday having to be without my truck for a couple months while they put in a reman motor. Sorry but I’m not interested in that and I didn’t buy my warranty just to guarantee I’d have to use it.

That does definitely make a difference because with that axle right below it, the little filters are just as much of a pain in the rear as it is.

About a month after I bought my 2019 classic, my sons 2015 sucked a cam at 107,000 miles. Since he had complained about loud lifter tick since 75,000 miles (was documented but the dealer always said “no trouble found” )
Chrysler actually did the repair for $100 deductible. Amazing.

Anyway I’ve been parinoid ever since. Mine ticks loudly when starting it after a short run…not always but too often. So, I have switched brands and weights of oil every 2500-3000 miles, always a different oil filter, sometimes the larger RP or XG2, sometimes the smaller mopar or Napa or ???

The end result is that oil pressure never changes except it went from 48 psi to 46 psi at 75 mph using ab XG2 and royal purple 5w20. Dammit. I sick of spending big bucks on “premium oil” that make absolutely no difference

So, with all the time, money and worry, I’ve finally had it. I am switching back to my old standby Mobil 1, with 5w20 extended performance (ms6395 compliant) as the mopar requirement, and a small mopar filter. At least if it craps out it complies with Morse standards and they can’t deny warranty work. Then, if the damm thing blows up, just let it blow…I’m sick of the bull crap. I have a factory 125,000 extended warranty and at 124,500 I’ll dump it. Whew…I feel better after venting. Thanks for listening….

Did you buy your 19 new or used? At this point depending on how bad your tick is and hopefully it’s not too late, switch to that Redline 5w30 with one of them larger RP filters. Lot of people claim to have reversed the tick.

But I feel your pain. Sometimes even with what I do, I feel it’s futile but hey, no one can’t at least say I didn’t try. Seems to me that using the factory junk is just asking for trouble down the line. And I get it, unless you try the Redline 5w30/RP filter combo, maybe it is just best at this point in time to just sit back, not worry about it and hopefully if it does puke up a cam, it’ll do it while you have warranty coverage left.

Look into the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. To the best of my knowledge, a warranty claim has to prove that the filter you used is directly responsible for the failure you’re claiming in order to deny it.

The reason I put the laugh emoji also is, you’re contesting the knowledge of the forum that literally everyone is telling you.

There’s a lot of smart and well educated people on here: a few petroleum engineers, I’m a mechanical engineer, etc.

The info being given to you is also based off of data and experiences of people who have done and tried this already.

Again not trying to be argumentative I’m just saying all of these engineer ram owners are telling you this information for a reason.

Imo buy the 20-500 I linked for $11.99. Or buy the fram xg2 for $8.97 or xg 10575 for $11.99 from Walmart

I appreciate your rant but I feel you may have missed the lubricity part of what certain oil additive packages have vs other brands (and even weights within the same brand I.e PUP 5w20 vs PUP 5w30) mentioned in the synthetic oil thread. Nothing to do with pressure.

I have looked into the Magnussen Moss act and I know it protects us from certain things which makes them prove that said part or mod was the culprit of said repair but I guess I’m just looking at from the perspective that if it says in the contract to use genuine OE parts or genuine OE-spec’ed aftermarket parts then they could use it against me being that I deviated away from that and not only that, does the Magnussen Moss act protect against other purchased warranties besides the factory warranty? I’m still under my factory warranty for the power train but come Christmas, that’ll be the last of all my factory warranty and it’s Mopar MVP lifetime after that.

And no, I am most certainly not contesting any of the info here and I understand what’s been told to me. It’s just that you all- and I mean absolutely no disrespect when I say this but you all have one-track minds that doesn’t have to worry about complying with a warranty and you guys are free to do whatever you want and if whatever that is doesn’t work or something else totally unrelated happens, it’s y’all’s dime, not no one else’s. You don’t have to worry about getting a lawyer and defending what you know is right. I don’t have that luxury and don’t wanna have to hash anything out in courtroom but, I would still like to know what the best is I can use and still not upset my warranty. It really is that simple.

It’s not like that and if the XG2 or the RP 20-820 or 20-500 is better for these engines, how do you explain that to warranty when they’re that black and white and have a loophole around what truly is better? It’s just like when I did that one oil change with the Amsoil SS 5w20; it was the correct weight(according to the manufacturer) and even though Amsoil told me that even though it isn’t API and Chrysler MS6395 certified, it does meet and exceed those certifications but good luck convincing warranty people that who are just looking for a reason to deny somebody. All they see is no API certification label on the bottle or no mention of Chrysler’s spec so that allows them to be crooked to the point of not caring even if they do know that the Amsoil SS is one of the best engine oils out there.

So I guess with that said, I’ll just use the Fram I bought unless you think I could be better off with the RP 10-48 or the Wix XP 57060.

I didn't realize you have the lifetime warranty, so now I better understand your dilemma. There are those that are reporting many, many miles over 100K on their engines with no lifter/cam failures, but I can understand that the presence of this topic can self-generate angst.

As other posters have mentioned, there is data here and other places that you can study to determine your best course of action.

If it is any consolation, my 2015 ticks like this almost every time after a short run. Sounds like utter dog**** when it happens, and I cringe every time.

I got her with 28.6k miles on the odo, and she now has 149k miles. She has ticked like that during the whole time I've had her.

I used PP 5w-20 with a Fram XG10060 filter almost exclusively (used an XG10575 once and a K&N once). Have used Lubegard biotek on a couple changes, too.

Oil is changed every 10k miles.

On the last couple changes, I started using PP 5w-30, and the most recent change 3 days ago, I used the Fram XG2 filter as well.

Someone suggested raising rpms to about 2k when shutting off after a short run, and it does seem to be quiet when I restart (when I remember to do it....lol).

I get keyed up every time I think I hear something different with her, after reading about cam failures, but have realized that all I can do is take good care of her, give her good oil, maintain her, and fix things as needed.

She has been an excellent vehicle, and I would buy another with similar mileage/condition as mine was when I got her.

The concern specially with the amsoil filter is many reported p1524 faults. I think amsoil did the right thing by saying it’s not recommended at that point. The issue seems to be this and am sure other similar size filters get degraded faster than a larger one. These Hemi’s if there especially is a problem will wear faster degrading a filter faster. Faster than say what the normal 5k oci would be. Clogging a filter before a oil change could be catastrophic.

FWIW this seems to of been specially in regards to the EA15K50. The EA011 is the upgraded version and would be a good option.

I guess I’ve had good luck with the Wix, I haven’t had anything bad happen that I know of…lol.

Buts what’s funny, Amsoil actually recommended the Wix XP over their own filter and it was because I don’t run the amount of miles that filter is good for.

But I dunno, I did a little bit of reading and now all the sudden the RP 10-48 seems like a better choice.
