My wife was pre-diabetic and we switched to a Paleo diet about 10 years ago. We were super strict with this diet for about 2 years and her blood sugar quickly got under control. As
@Lysergic stated, the hardest part for me was turning my body from a sugar burner (carbs) to a fat burner. I really had no energy and my muscles felt weak after about 3 weeks into the diet. This lasted for about 2 days but once I got over that hump, I just feel better and have more energy.
We do cheat once in awhile but as long as carbs are kept to a minimum we don't notice any ill effects. We completely avoid processed foods, products with seed oils and severely restrict our intake of typical wheat based products. When we do eat pasta and breads, we use flour and pastas made from Einkorn wheat, which is the original, non-genetically modified wheat. This diet has become more of a lifestyle for us and while it does take some planning and definitely does cost more, how do you put a price on your health? It does help that we both like to cook, and we each have our specialties so this makes it easier.
I wish you luck on your journey to staying healthy and avoiding what very well might be unnecessary drugs,
@Burla.
