I'm at 176k on my 2015 Ram 1500. I'm getting the Hemi tic. My understanding is broken manifold bolts is the cause. I'm thinking for the price, I may go ahead and replace the manifolds while i'm at it. I've heard the manifolds can slightly warp over time. Any input or suggestions

If it is indeed manifold bolts then do NOT just replace the manifolds with more manifolds as it will just happen again. Since warping has already happened with your manifolds which is what has caused your bolts to break then just take them in to get resurfaced/flattened and you will not have the issue again. The warping only happens once. On a new set it surely will happen down the road and you will be right back at square 1.

To know for sure if it is manifold then reach under sidewall grab the manifold heatshield if it moves then it most definitely is bolts.

Hemi tick has two causes with the same noise and same symptoms, it is exhaust when it is exhaust, the other times it is lifter tick. Rule out bolts and the first poster said, if it is lifter tick you can try a lubrication strategy we have on the board, but those are a lot of miles and I'm not sure if it will help. At warm idle after a trip, does it sound like a sewing machine at idle?

They can warp ALOT over time, lol. So many of us have have had it happen.

@Burn2k12Ram said it well, it only takes 30 seconds to check for.

Wile this is a valid option this would cost more than a new set of manifolds or shortie headers. I priced it out and my machine shop would not even do it, i know my guys guite well. Also don't use the OEM studs or cheap aftermarket, go with a ARP or grade 8 bolt and problem will be solved. I know guys that just changed out all the studs for grade 8 using the warped manifolds, sucked them back down and never had a issue again

Then use a belt sander to get the manifold flat, replace the gasket (remflex is highly recommended here). You dont need grade 8 bolts. I used everbuilt hardware from amazon on my '15. No issues so far after almost 50k miles. Gaskets and hardware should run you about $100.

The biggest thing is that the manifolds are heat seasoned, and should not warp further.

You will have to work at it a bit with the belt sander, but it's just time. I did not get my exhaust manifolds perfectly flat either, they were twisted a bit too. The remflex gaskets are supposed to seal really well, too.

I wish you the best on your repair, may it go smoothly.

in July of 2016, I replace to bolts and gaskets. At the time I had a little over 200k miles, and I now, 6 years later, I have 243k and still no problems. I saved more than $600 by doing this.

Only get the tick when it starts up. After it gets warm the tic is gone. Confirmed it is the bolts, at least according to a mechanic. Don't get the sewing machine sound, in fact, it sounds completely normal at warm idle.

Find another place besides your normal guys, and get them planed or ground on a belt sander. UNless you are looking to upgrade to SS. Cost should NOT be as much as a set of shorties...if it is, then you are getting ripped off. Your manifolds are already heat cycled, just plane them and you aught not have to ever worry about it again.
