Hey guys did a lifter cam job new everything even got heads machined. Used MMX non-tune cam with OEM hellcat lifters and high volume melling oil pump. Truck runs great plenty of power but has a loud tick, had manifolds checked no leaks. I'm running 5-30w amsoil signature with a wix XP filter.? My question is there a break in period am I over reacting truck almost sounds like a diesel LOL I'll try to add a video

I cannot even tell you how many times the board has heard this, sorry for the troubles bummer. So no time isn't gonna help, the number one reason is push rods are already bent, if this is the case it will get worse don't worry. If the lifters are getting splashed the best oil or additive is heavy EP additives and base oils, the best choice 5w30 redline and a high flow 20-820 RP filters. Read the redline poll and see results.

It;s not from age, I don't know the why and most people don't either, that is why such a fail rate. For some reason they are going out of cup, dunno the answer brother. Did you read cam thread, maybe the answer is in there. Read this thread before opening it back up. If the tick gets worse for sure don't drive it.

I don't know how to guarantee push rods staying cupped, maybe hand spinning engine and checking cup? Maybe this isn't the issue, but it is a known issue after cam install.

Chances are either a pushrod is bent or it fell out of the lifter cup on initial start up. It’s super easy to think you have the pushrods in properly but they’re not.

It’s best practice to rotate the engine over by hand a few times after installing the push rods and rocker arm assemblies.

Those are Non MDS OEM lifters. Holy $hit. I'm just thinking of replacing my aftermarket ones on a new build with OEM for the same reason. I thought the general consensus was they are better if not at least quiet.

quiet lifters dont really exsist in this engine some rare unicorn engines out there that dont make noise.

Wanted to update you guys on what's been going on with the hemi. So broke the engine down everything looked great. So I was confused, replaced the pushrods since I had them. Rotated the engine a few times while torquing the rocker arms. Noticed the rockers had some left and right wiggle room. But no vertical space. Spoke to Dodge about this and they said it's normal on a truck with that kinda mileage and that eventually replacing it would probably make the valve train quieter. Spoke to MMX about the camshaft the lobe variations on there cam causes some overlap which explains the different almost misfire like engine sound. After 3000 miles the truck is running great the engine is quieter and also had an oil change with no shavings. I appreciate all the help I'll drive this engine untill it dies and just replace it the trucks been great after 220k it's still a great daily.

Did the noise go away after the new push rods? Or was it still noise then got quiet after 3k and an oil change. Going through the same thing currently, my truck sounds exactly like yours did after the cam and lifter change, I’m at 1100 miles and it’s gotten quieter but still sounds like a sewing machine. Run great, has power and no codes, been thinking about doing pushrods just because I didn’t change those.

How many miles on your Hemi?

Did you use OE parts from a reputable source?

There's LOTS of counterfeit parts out there, even ones that look like OE packaging, Sad, but true.

When I did my cam/lifters at 201k, i found worn valve stems and a chipped one, along with worn rocker arms.

Ended up buying all valves and rocker arms to go withthe new valve springs and pushrods I had already bought. 200k is alot of miles, and unfortunately, parts do wear.

I still have all my original parts, maybe someday I will get around to looking closer to see how much wear there is.
