I told them im staying to watch. I hope they know how serious i am. And when they drive it to “burp” it..... im going to be driving.

And if they dont want to use water. Thats fine. They can flush it with lots of coolant.

They shouldn't be driving it to burp it. They should be using a Mopar coolant system refill tool such as:

  1. Refer to the Mopar Essential Tools and Service Equipment Tool, UView Airlift(TM) Cooling System Refill 399-550000 or equivalent and follow tool's operating manual for specific assembly steps.
upload_2018-2-19_19-24-0.png

Basically, they should drain and flush and drain the entire system again, then use the tool above to induce a vacuum state on the system while empty. Then put coolant into the bucket and open the valve on the tool. The system's vacuum will suck the coolant from the bucket. When the system pressure reaches zero, it will be refilled with no air.

Checked my samples this morning. The control OAT/HOAT/water mix definitely has an ammonia smell. The OAT/truck sample/water smells like coolant, and the HOAT/truck sample/water has a slight ammonia smell. No sludge in any of them.

Based only on smell, I'd say I have OAT in my truck

I don’t know what to believe anymore besides the few of us that have posted on this thread. The technician basically told me that it’s normal for new fluid to change colors when new, and when the fluid gets older it will probably stay more purple which seems to be the complete opposite of what we have found. So I said how does it make sense that the Coolant is supposed to go in completely purple and then it changes color from the orange-ish red to a slight purple durring the first 15,000 miles of use and then supposed to go back to purple when it gets older? His response “ yup, that’s basically what happens” I instantly thought ....... whatever ********.

He did agree about the smell and if it smells sweet it’s just fine versus smelling like ammonia.

I said well as long as I’m on record and you plug my truck in showing I was here and you were checking for issues that’s fine... if this turns to crap it’s all coverd by the dealer. He agreed.

LOL another note. I schedule time to have this flush done I ended up “not needing the flash” and asked if I had any other issues. I mentioned that my outside ambient temperature has been way off every couple times I start my truck and was wondering if they could just fix it while I’m here since I made an appointment. They said I’d have to make a different appointment for that issue .....what a ******* joke. I seriously hate FCA dealers. I had to make an appointment to weeks out just to drive my truck in to have that fixed. Because “everyone in the shop was booked all day”. I feal like i have to make a deal with the devil just to get any sort of real customer service.

It’s all up to you now Cory.:banana-mario:

I noticed mine smells a lot sweeter when hot.

Lol that's great. I'd make sure to keep that receipt so it does sludge up you can make them deal with it. What a joke most dealers are.

I'm dropping my truck off tonight to get it flushed. I'll let you know what my mechanic has to say about it after he's flushed it.

how does purple change to orange? did you have rmi 25 prior, that is yellow so in theory that could contribute to orange.

I wish I had checked it when the truck was new because I have no idea what color it started out as. I've never used used RMI. I'm thinking it might be the early orange OAT...

Well guess my truck won't get done tomorrow. My mechanic has 2 guys out with the flu so he's backlogged with breakdowns.

So it may be next week before he can get me in or I could attempt it myself....
