Hello everybody! So I just bought my very first truck! 2017 Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi. In this world of tens of thousands of possible mods, I'm sure there is a crop of 6 to 12 "must do" mods that are required by the community. What are they? What are the mods that you all consider that every Ram truck owner MUST do? Cosmetic or performance, either one I'm wanting to hear. I don't want to be that guy that all the serious Ram owners look at or talk to that go "what a *******, he still hasn't don't XYZ to his rig."

What's the scoop everyone?

Most members go right for a cold air intake (vararam seems to be the go to for cai), catch can (pcv to intake filter), exhaust system, level or lift, all kinds of led mods, a lot of interior mods as well, o and let’s not forget the offset wheels that stick out without fender flares and ruin your paint mod (that one I could never understand), all the tuners and pedal commanders they put on. That’s just a few, there’s a **** ton more.

Impo, I keep my vehicles mostly stock, less crap to fail and cause unneeded stress when **** breaks and don’t have a warranty or pockets full of loot to pay someone to fix it ya know. Some of the mods are useless though so research before buying anything. Some people on here are VERY intelligent mechanic wise so you definitely won’t have an issue with advice. Good luck with everything, hope to see some pics when your activity modding.

Ps. Just remember, always research your own information cause there’s some trolls on here that love to spit garbage. But don’t worry cause the ear to ear grin while driving your truck will overcome most dilemmas.

There are so many mods there are no must haves that I am aware of. Congrats on your new Ram.

Exhaust, I have a Carven on mine.

A catch can would also be a good thing to have although it does not add any power.

Well unless you have the sticker for it ofcourse. :)

First "mod" I did to my truck was replace the seal on the third brake light (there was talk it has been fixed by Ram to be thicker but I didn't want to risk it). Truck doesn't fit in my garage and has since been in many torrential down pours and never had a drop of water inside. Shortly after that I did a muffler swap, then wheels/tires, a Pedal Commander, CAI and I am pretty much happy with the truck as is now. I would do a tune and a few other performance mods but decided I am just going to keep it stock for reliability and warranty standpoint.

A catch can would also be a good thing to have although it does not add any power.

For the 5.7 Hemi this is certainly a good mod.

Wow...lots of stuff you can do depending on your wants. I'm fairly happy with what I've done so far....muffler swap, level with bilsteins (front and rear), bed cover, step rails, new speakers, sub, and amp, pedal commander, short radio antenna, rubber bed mat, and Katz leather seat replacement. Most likely will go for some larger tires when the time comes.

There are so many options, best of luck figuring out what you want to do. I'm beginning to think the skies the limit with these Rams.

Go the the general discussions and peruse the mods under $100 discussion.

Basically it depends on your budget and skill set.

That would be a good starting point.

Things like bright leds in the cabin, tailgate assist, and headlight upgrades were a must for me. Put in a high flow air filter and make your own intake will save you a bunch of money.

I also love the bilstein 5100 shocks. Way better handling and not too much loss if any in ride quality.

Billet Tech Catch Can, Vararam intake, Carven/Mufflex bolt on muffler, and Pedal Commander. 4 very easy bolt on mods that are going to make the truck a lot more fun without breaking the bank.

Excellent! Just some of the feedback o was hoping for. As far as the catch can and pedal commander goes. WTF are those? Would anyone mind providing links and/or part numbers to what I would need?

Go to Moe's Performance, a preferred vendor on this forum for more detailed information. He also sells the performance parts you are looking for. He is currently running a 4th of July sale on a lot of things.

We actually have both of those items discounted right now for the 4th of July. There are links to each item in the thread below. We have an install video and description of each on our website as well.

The Catch can collects the oil that gets pumped through your PCV valve which prevents it from building up on your throttle blade and the inside of your intake runners. This is going to keep your fuel and the inside of the motor clean.

The Pedal Commander is a shift on the fly throttle controller that completely eliminates the lag in the gas pedal when you step on the throttle. Makes the truck much more fun to drive.

The catch can collects oil that gets pushed through your PCV valve into a can. Instead of it going into your intake. I vented my can to the atmosphere and capped the engine ports.

The buildup on the intake is a huge pain to get off. Seafoam doesn't do much to get it off.
