I'm hoping someone can clarify what I'm being told...

I'm told the driver and passenger windows go down 1" when opened and back up to closed, when the door is closed. This sounds odd to me. Is it true ?

On my older ram you can press and hold the unlock button and roll the windows down, but I don't think they went back up. On the newer ones that feature has been removed.

No, this is not about the windows going all the way down. Just 1 inch drop when the door is opened, and then they automatically go back up when the door is closed. I'm being told this is normal behavior... to do with the amount of air pressure when closing the door, which sounds like bunk to me as that's what the baffles on the back wall are supposed to be for... but this is my first RAM so I don't know what is normal or not yet.

I didn't get it from a dealer. We are rebuilding a wreck, which is currently already better than when it was new.

There's vents on the back of the cab for air pressure when closing the doors so that's not it.

That's what I said. Perhaps a "window reset" procedure will correct it. But apparently, right now when you open the doors the windows drop 1" and then automatically close themselves once the door has been closed. Weird to me.

I know when I replaced my power window cluster in the drivers door it didn't work properly until I disconnected the battery to reset so worth a shot. Any chance there's an aftermarket alarm system in there with some weird option settings?

With it being a wreck rebuild perhaps the previous owner programmed that feature in somehow. It seems too specific to be a fluke problem. Maybe somebody on the OBD2 thread could tell you if there's a settings option somewhere in the ecu.

Well, thanks everyone. I didn't think it was normal behavior, it would be crazy in my climate were windows get iced up all the time. I've got the Alfa app, and will look thru the settings to see if I can find anything. Hopefully the window reset procedure will correct it. Thanks all for confirming it for me!

It is not normal. It is common on cars without a door frame at the rear and top of the window. My Chevy 2005 SSR and my 2009 Mustang GT 500 would drop the window about 25mm (1") as soon as you would move the door handle.
Have you tried cycling the windows up and down a few times? Sometimes they need to "learn" how far to go. But honestly, I don't know why this would even occur at all.
