Chris....if I remember correctly you too have a transplanted RA4 in your Ram? I have a 2017 Ram 2500 that had an RA3 from the factory. I installed an RA4 into it. The RA4 I obtained came out of a 2017 Ram (part# 68270661AF). It currenly has SW version 16.51.19.

My question is: DO I NEED TO UPDATE TO SW 17.43 FIRST BEFORE UPDATING TO 18.45?

I read MGrimm's post #3 on the first page and if I understand the post (and the chart in it) correctly, I do NOT need to update to 17.43 first. But I am not 100% sure since there is so much info contained in the several threads on the forum and I am looking for guidance. You and Grimm seam to be the ACE'S on this. Any input of course is welcomed!
I think you should be ok going right to 18.x. your, albeit old [emoji16], sw version is on the list in the chart so I think you'll be fine.

Someone here already even updated to 18.45.01 from a version NOT in the chart and it worked fine there too.

I had version 16.23.21, downloaded the 18.45.01 update to USB today.
It failed on the IOC-Bootloader unit twice. Figured it was going to not work.
Yanked the USB drive when it reset 3rd time and copied the download onto an older USB drive.
Don't know if that made any difference using the older drive, but the update went past the IOC-Bootloader part & finished all the rest of the update with the 2nd USB drive.

2016 1500 with 1C VIN:
I updated to 17.43.01 a couple weeks ago via USB after OTA failed twice. Since then, I’ve been checking daily to see if 18.45.xx would come available, but every time I checked UConnect said I needed an upgrade and pointed me toward 17.43.01. This morning I received an update email from UConnect so checked: still recommending 17.43.01. But then the UC site went wonky for a few seconds and when it came back it said my vehicle was up to date.

I just checked tonight and bingo!- UC site said I needed 18.45.01. Downloading now and will run the USB update tonight. So if UC isn’t showing an update yet for your truck keep checking. They are clearly swamped by this and maybe finally realized the fit was almost in the shan so gave up on OTA and are pushing USB.

Just pulled the official updated version of the v18.45.01 updates from the uconnect site and updated the post 3 D/L links with the new version for those with transplanted RAx radios. (vs our unofficial pre-release version that had the same swdl.iso file and worked also).

My RA4 currently is on SW version 16.51.19 and according to your post (#3) listing the various versions of SW's, I would not need to update to 17.53 first, before updating to SW 18.45? Also member RamInfo (post #143 above) went from 16.23.21 to 18.45. So just do the one update - 18.45? I ask because of our phone conversation we had yesterday outlining what I needed to do. Also see my post #141 for more info. Thanks..............

NOTE: Just read your email after posting the above about your recommendation........thanks

UConnect had been saying my 2016 RA3 with Nav update was up to date at version 17.11.07. Nav server 9.10.32.682628. For grins yesterday I checked and now indicated 18.45.1 was authorized. Perhaps there had been a authorization issu?

Anyway, I have a Mac, where I downloaded the update, double clicked the zip image, dragged the four files that were extracted to an empty Fat 32 formatted 4GB USB stick. It took a few minutes to copy as the files are over 1.4 GB and USB sticks are slow.

Today I went out to install and within 35 minutes it was updated and checked out (including all the door openings and a short drive to calibrate the GPS). it was updated to 18.45.1 Nav server 9.10.32.702279

I used the console USB port (media hub). At first I didn't think anything was happening, but I noticed the little USB stick activity indicator flashing. It probably takes awhile to read the files. Later there was a similar delay after the home screen came up and it started the verification. So, as others have said, it pays to be patient.

Looks like things are working, backup camera is fine, GPS doing its thing. I don't typically use uconnect apps.

Just completed update. Went smoothly, 30 minutes of idling and watching the fuel guage drop.

I note that my completion screen differed from what was in the downloaded instructions. On reboot after completing the update, mine did not display old/new versions but said “Software updated successfully! Do you want to reinstall version 18.45.10?” I answered NO, unit did it’s final reboot and I followed the on/off-open/close protocol per instructions and all is working fine, V18.45.01 being displayed under “System Info”

Sure glad the forum is here and this thread was pinned!

Finally broke down and updated mine too.

Everything went as planned. I was impatient after the reboot and didnt wait for it to re-start the USB process, but I did watch it update the time (from 12:00 to 8 hours earlier than actual, to actual). Checked GPS map and saw it still had my actual location, then I just shut the truck down.

Have made a couple drives since then and everything seems fine. Camera, GPS, bluetooth, voice reply to text, etc.

That could be some folks troubles. But not mine. I called and was told the update had "bugs" and that it was being worked on. That's all I know. The instructions online for the 17.43 update gave detailed instructions about "unzipping" files. But the new online instructions for the 18 .??update didn't have any such "unzipping"instructions. I ck'ed the files after downloading them and there wasn't a file that had to "unzipped". One .exe file and 3 or 4 other smaller ones. Who knows ? Not this ole cowboy, that's for sure.

If you see those five files, copy them to a USB flash drive that is formatted using the FAT32 file system and put it in your truck.

Just tried to update my buddy's truck. His current version is 16:09:09 so it shows it should update on the list. I used the 18:45.01 update I downloaded from my Vin for my 16 radio and updated my truck with no issues. His radio is a 16 or 17 and it says in incorrect for model year. I'm wondering if the updates that are downloaded for a certain Vin# are year specific or there is some type of glitch with his radio? I'm going to try downloading the one MpGrimm2 has listed and see if it works. This is the first time I've seen this happen with the 18.45.01 update. 9378c00dbc68016f776a2d32fec99278.jpgfb0d6826c715a067303680fe34eb6ccb.jpgfd2b0fdc1907349fa6e04a5872d36a1a.jpg

Thats odd.

In the ECU part number file on the ISO I see that model, but different suffix (AJ instead of AH). I think that means it SHOULD work but obviously it doesnt like that.

The downloads are not VIN specific, the VIN is only there for a lookup to find what radio is expected for that VIN, then a link to the correct RA3 or RA4) file is generated.

What is interesting about that part number is the lookup file shows it as RA3/VP3....was this unit an RA3 and then had navigation activated? I think someone else with that setup had an issue.

The problem is a lot of the guys I'm trying to help around here threw everything away after they bought the radios so I'm not even sure what year they are in order to download newer firmware in them hoping that then I can download that 18.45.01 firmware.

Why not look at the sticker in the door jam?

EDIT: maybe you mean the year for the replacement radio instead of the year of the truck?

Wow that's strange. Im.100% sure the radio is a VP4 NA. It has HD radio. I know he got it out of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I'm almost positive it was a 16 so not sure why it's giving the message. I might try updating it to 17:43:01 first to see what it does.
