Just drove from Florida to Wisconsin. Bought 93 octane at Costco along the way. My truck is 2020 BigHorn, 5.7L Hemi, 4wd, Crew Cab, w/Red Line oil. Average MPG for the 1345 mile trip is: 22.6.

Ah nothing like a good mpg thread and all the agnst it provides.

Like I have previously mentioned. If you are buying say a 50k truck with a big V8 engine, weighs between 6k and 7k lb, some laying around with different tire sizes and lifts and so on.... then worrying about MPG.

YUP, it's a Hemi. Just fer chits and giggles, tried to get good pics of my Cluster driving on flat road, at speeds shown, about 80 degrees out, unloaded truck, 2019 Bighorn, 5.7 (no torque), with Falkens for tires (not stock SRA), and a full tonneau cover, wind 10-15 mph, varying directions. One mileage is fantasy, just had to get a pic, got lucky, don't we all wish we got the reading, other two as being shown.

I don't believe anybody on MPG on their vehicle. This one seems to be
a whopper...........
totally believable at those speeds. My 20 will get 21mpg highway at 65, about 17.5 at 70, 15 at 75 and 13 at 80. It is a significant disappointment given the prevailing speeds where speed limits are 75. If I drive it like my grandmother it does get decent mileage.

While I didn't buy my truck to necessarily get great fuel mileage I also didn't buy it to see how much fuel I could burn either. I only check it when I'm on a trip which is 80% of the time as I drive it when I travel. Even races are won by fuel mileage. (nascar)

I found about 2MPG difference between running 93Oct vs 87Oct so I never felt bad about paying for it on road trips. In town, I usually just run 87 but I’m a strange man with odd ideas.

Well, I read the thread pro and con and now I must say, I get 21.5 to 23 mpg driving 60 mph on the highway. Mine you, in Belize, there are speed bumps on the highway. You have slow down, go over the bump, and accelerate. This is about every 10 miles.

In the city (village) driving, my Ram Hemi shows around 16-17 mpg. I do use the A to keep up with gas tank to gas tank mpg. I use the B button to keep up with mpg per 5k miles. Over 4 year period, my average stays about the same.

Very happy with my Big Horn 4x4...btw, I do use the 4x4 on a daily basis going up steep drives and driveways in the jungle area of Belize.

This may or may not mean much to my Canadian and USA Ram cohorts but it is what it is.

The truck is now 2 years and 5 months old with just over 20,000 miles. Mileage Per Gallon has slightly increased.
At 2 months and 2061 miles. Cruise Control at 70 MPH. MPG was 22.0 See Pic 1
At 2 years 5 months and 20469 miles. Cruise Control at 70 MPH. MPG was 23.2 See Pic 2
Both trips were on same Interstate 20 in western SC.
Combined Highway/City is now 17/18 An increase since new.

Floor it fun factor still there :p No MPG documented.

Just an FYI.

I got so tired of buttwads calling me an out right liar, despite posting picture proof, that I basically quit posting on these MPG threads. Don't worry about the snark comments, if we did there is nothing we would post on here because there is always that one guy that deserves:biggun:

Funny how guys will say stuff on a forum they would never say to your face.

So, that was entertaining. I've read just the final three pages, I should go back and read the rest. I am sure there is plenty of entertainment value there as well.

Yes, regardless of your opinion, you should be respectful of others, and calling them liars just doesn't cut it. And yes, this is a private forum, which means they could cut someone out for being rude too. However, it sounds like that's in the past, he gave up a while ago.

As far as mileage, I too have gotten 22 MPG on the dash, on a trip from VT to FL, 1,364 Miles. However, I also kept track of actual mileage and actual gas used. Over 1,364 miles, that ought to be pretty accurate. When I got home, I manually calculated my real mileage and came up with 20.5 MPG. That's the real story here, this is just an estimate based on fuel flow rate, etc. Mind you, this is by far the best system I have seen, but it still has been consistently overrating my mileage, which is exactly what you would expect. Another interesting thing is that my mileage has dropped since a year ago. I haven't recalculated the mileage using actual mileage and fuel purchases, but in just looking at and recording what is on the dash, it's about 1 to 1.5 miles lower, depending on what I am doing. This seems to have started when I began towing a trailer. I have a fairly light rig, 4,500# dry weight, about 5,200 loaded. I got just about 9 MPG on a long haul (based on the instrument cluster), max speed 65 MPH. Since that event, I have seen the lower figures on most trips, but nothing over 300 miles, so who knows. Anyway, fun thread. I needed some entertainment today. Good thing I didn't waste my time with Netflix .

2022 Ram1500 5.7 Hemi. Recently installed a S&B Cold Air Intake. My gas mileage has changed. I'm went from 17 MPG average to 14.5. Is this normal?

That does sound odd. i did a high flow intake on my Harley, had to use a fuel management system to work properly. I am guessing the added air you have made is being compensated by the computer by adding fuel to keep proper mix. I am only giving an educational guess though.

You may wanna put the stock air intake back on. It’s a marketing tactic to claim increases. Google loss of mpg with CAI.

With the CAFE standards if a manufacture could increase the MPG with a simple CAI every vehicle would have one from factory.

When someone says “70” yet their screen shot of their speedo shows 66, well it’s hard to believe anything else….. just sayin.
Has anyone considered that when the cruise is set to 70 and the truck hits the beginning of a decent hill (especially a mountain grade), the speedo can drop 2 to maybe 4 mph (at which timing the OP’s pic could have been taken) before the truck downshifts to accelerate back up to the set speed? Of course, it seems my truck overshoots the set speed by 4 mph after cresting the good ‘ole North Georgia hills where I drive daily.

Add me to the "liars" club.

This pic was taken some time ago on a nice, windless summer day on I-490 at 55 MPH. I wasn't carrying or towing anything. Please note that the pic is of the Trip screen showing accumulated mileage since the last reset. At fill-up the actual calculated MPG was 28.8.

Full disclosure: this was the highest I've ever recorded. However, I have reached 22 MPG or more nineteen times over the life of this vehicle, 23 MPG twelve times, and 24 MPG three times.

Factors missing from this contentious discussion that can have significant impact on fuel consumption are terrain, ambient temperature, road conditions, tire selection/condition, speed, and of course the one with the greatest possible impact - driving style.

Dusty

Go back to stock. Not only do those cold air rigs cut gas mileage quite often, they are no where near as good at filtering dust out. K&N continues to make millions and advertise superior filtration and flow when the superior filtration claim has been proven wrong many times.
