I just had my oil change made.

How much Lubeguard can I now add without having problem because there is too much oil fluid in the system? 5, 10, 15 oz.?

Or do I absolutely have to remove the same amount of oil?

Start with 5 oz oz see if you get the results you are looking for, than add in 5 oz increments

Where on the stick is the oil line, right at or a little below the line? Measure twice be sure. If it is at or under the fill line, 10 ounces should be no problem. I go a qrt over and have for 8 years, and that is only 1/2 a qrt.

older thread, I finally got around to adding the LG - actually used my last dealer PUP change so next time will be able to try out Redline.

Kinda funny story, I had asked service rep if they would install my Royal Purple filter, they said no they only install Mopar items, which I understand, no problem. So I said let's go ahead and install an SRT filter figuring next time when I do it I'll just start using my RP filters. But since I had the RP filter in the back with the LubeGuard, the tech came out and asked me if I wanted him to use the RP filter, and I was all like yes, thank you very much lol. So that worked out after all. So she's all slicked up on fresh PUP, a dose of LubeGuard, and a RP filter to boot.

If you have no tick that sounds like an awesome combination!

My dealer had no problem installing filters I brought. I suspect because it lessened their 'loss' from the free oil changes. I'm past the freebies and changing it myself these days using Pennzoil Ultra Plat, 1 qt 5W30, 1 (15 oz) bottle of BioTech and the remainder PUP 5W20. Royal Purple 10-48 filter. No tick that I can hear.

I thought I started to have this issue, I remember reading on another Ram forum to try Motorcraft semi synthetic blend 5-20, I have had no engine noise at start up or at idle while using it. Maybe I just got an engine that doesn't have the issue, who knows.

For those of us with long term warranties we need to stick with Chrysler MS-6395 spec approved oils unfortunately. I sneak in some Liqui-Moly which has reduced the tapping slightly but I am only using 1/2 of a bottle as it is not cheap in comparison to a gallon of PUP.

Can you update us down the road, see if you notice any differences? I had my dealer do my oil change in February with inspection and recall work. Couple days later i put the royal purple 20-820 and got in about 12oz of lubegard. Couple hundred miles later i got about 4 more oz in. I haven't noticed any difference in sound at startup. Dealer could only tell me they use pennzoil synthetic. Not sure if its pp or pup. Curious if anyone noticed results adding lubegard

So by using additves you are within the acceptable range of risk in your opinion? If you have the tick and an extended warranty, let the fker tick. Just make sure you dotted your I's and crossed your T's. Just see what spec oil, does best at it, I'd look at qsud and other high moly options.

I didnt post it, but when I tried Liqui Moly and PUP, I noticed how the Liqui Moly gave the oil a gray tinge. You're probably better off using a good 5W-30 at that point, since its pretty obvious the oil was altered with the Liqui Moly.

I know you recommend a different additive (I forget which one).....does that change the look of the oil any?

I don't know I never used it :)

I think I still have some in the garage. I probably should have added it to that 10w30 run I had that brought back by tick, my bad on that one.

LubeGard BioTech was the other one I was thinking about, btw. I have never tried that one myself to see what the oil looks like afterwards.

Yep will do - this is likely my last PUP change, plan on switching to Redline on next change. I do recall most say it will take some time to have any effect, ie 500 miles or more.

Some people have reported as much, especially over at BITOG and some of the hemi threads over there. The science of moly is it takes time to plate, I wouldn't mess around with dosing with that product, just dump the entire 15 ounces right away and let it take some heat cycles to see if you get the plating action. Have you double checked exhaust bolts? Lifter tick will have changes after oil changes when vii's are at their strongest, if it was always the same sound, I'd look at exhaust bolts. Viscosity improvers are branched chain lubrication, that is why some oils will quiet an engine right away but after 500 miles start ticking like crazy as those products get mechanically sheared. Redline and biotech the opposite of that, the formula/s are set up to be a long term solution but you may or may not get a relief from ticking when first used. Regardless what you use, if the tick never chnages even after you changed the oil, I'd suspect something else as the culprit, unless the item is so out of tolerance no lubrication strategy will help.

The parts guys at my dealer were pretty certain it's just PP, not PuP.

Mine is supposed to be PUP - I paid extra for the "premium" service - the standard synthetic service was PP. But either way it's the last one, Redline will be next :).

But who knows what they are doing back in the service bays they could be putting whatever in there. Reminds me old Simpsons episode where they show Homer's work at the brewery... they had Duff, Duff Light, and Duff Dry storage tanks, then panned up and it was a single pipe/same beer just split off into the three different tanks lol...

Since the guy was nice enough to came out and put in my Royal Purple Filter I feel confident no shenanigans going on though.

Well, the normal tick i get is pretty consistent, except i just started the truck after 20 mins and got a loud rat tat tat sound for about 2 seconds. First time i heard that.
The first dose putting in 12oz was because i didn't want to over fill it too much. Technically i should be using 21oz, but couldn't drain any out, could have really used a fumoto valve there. I will take your advice and not dose it anymore. I haven't checked exhaust manifold bolts because i only have 6500 miles on the truck. But maybe i should check it out. Ive been following the synthetic oils thread, ultimately i will end up with redline i down the road, but maybe try pup or qsud 1st. I am one of the guys ruled by the thought of wasting money purchasing the maxcare warranty. 8yr, 75k tho didnt get lifetime. Thinking about buying pup 5w20 for my daughters rav4 or sons corolla, keeping those receipts like i used it on the Ram. I hate playing this damn game. All your research is extremely helpful, thanks for all that. I always just used mobil 1 in all cars and never gavd it another thought.
